AO had a BEAUTIFUL harlequin tusk which would have been perfect as a show-size specimen in a 180.
But if I had a 180 fowlr - I'd go the eel route and complement the eel with other fish that are (too big for it's mouth) and would not nip my eel's tail.
by the way - your post is a tad confusing...
is this your description or what the LFS sold it to you as? good luck with it. It's against my better judgement to encourage new tanks with anemones. Keep an eye on it just like you'd watch your scallop or fish. It is an animal (though your mind may think it's a plant that doesn't move) that...
agree with wendy - that coral looks bleached. I'm not sure of the crabs. All are omnivores and while someone may claim they eat "mucus" - I say if you had the choice between a meaty coral polyp (or the food in the polyp) - versus "mucus" - i would think they choose the seafood buffet.
spray paint here as well. I followed MikeNapoli's lead HERE:
To me either one works but I dislike the salt creep with the plastic.
At the end of the day the entire back is going to be covered in coralline algae...or if you frag zoas/xenia.
According to fatheree (citing barry at clams direct.com)- pinch mantle is due to a protozoan in the tank. It can be eliminated via a 30 min RO dip - but making sure the ph and temp are as close to display as possible.
I loved your tank with all those clams - it's a real bummer you lost them...
sorry to hear that...i forget if i asked you this question already but what color is the brittle star? green ones are notorious for taking down healthy fish.
think of it the other way also...besides not having enough heat - you could cook a tank.
One single heater getting stuck could be bad for a tank.
Two heaters (at half the wattage) have a lesser chance of BOTH getting stuck - and if one does get stuck - it cannot do as much damage.
personally...
totally understand. In this hobby it's far better to get multiple opinions. I must say the book on clams is excellent and it wasn't his own analysis - he cited several sources. Anyways - get the book and read it. It's a compelling argument.
The clam (looking at it again) looks perched on that...
Sandee...you bought PC lights.
While they are cheaper fixtures (than T5 and/or MH) - they require bulb changes more frequently - especially if you keep them on 12 hrs a day (aka normal use). I believe folks change out PC bulbs every 6 months.
PC's aren't bad - they are a little bit of an older...
a word of caution on adding the anemone - there is always the possibility of the critter moving to one of your intakes (the hob filter, or one of the 2 hydors). In a 29 gallon tank - one false step and you've got shredded anemone.
great looking tank...the corals are looking very nice. I like the maxima also...keep in mind according to the latest analysis per Fatherree - there is a lot of evidence that shows that tridacnid clams do NOT require supplemental feeding of phyto. DT's is great - I use it to boost the copepod...
