Do you have the sponge inside the return tube? Mine can with a sponge that acts as a bubble trap if that gets dirty or blown out the skimmer throws bubbles into the tank.
First off seahorses are not reef dwelling creatures so keeping them in a reef set up is not natural for them. They are not accustomed to the high temps and flow rates that a reef environment has.

I mix my kalk in q 5 gallon bucket and use a plastic container to scoop out what liquid I need. My drip container is 1 liter so it is easier for me to dip then it is to pour it off. I replace the water I use with fresh and remix the kalk to use up the sediment.

Maxi-Jets can not be used inline. They are a submersible pump only. Even in the Seaclone application the pump is inside the tank.

Joe the fitting and the bulkhead nut should twist opposite directions. If it is twisting the whole fitting then try holding the bulkhead nut. That is why I suggested removing it so you don't crack the tank.
Yes you can use a threaded to slip adapter and then just screw a barb fitting into it. That would allow you to use a short length of tubing to connect the 2.
