Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
We've had the responses slow to a crawl for people who are going to be building reactors. I think we're ready to order parts for them. Any other last minute takers before we close out this buy?
Thanks!
Lots of people here are a whole hill smarter than me, I can tell ya! I'm a relative newbie to this whole reefing thing. All we can do is learn from each other and hope not to make the same mistake twice.
Ending up in the Hot Seat was pure luck! ;D
You can calibrate it with RO water. Just put some RO on there instead of SW. It should read exactly zero with RO on it. Certainly bring it along with you to the meeting though if you'd like!
I use RC straight out of the bucket. I don't add anything to it before adding it to the tank and I don't buffer my top off water either. The only thing that is evaporating out of the tank should be water.
For top-off water use highly salted salt water. I would bring it up as much as .002 a day but .001 is a good save conservative measure.
Good luck and above all else DON'T Panic!
Also have you tried re-calibrating your hydrometer? Does it calibrate wrong?
Thanks for posting all of the details to this, Rich! It looks pretty well thought out. Now we just need links to the parts so that we can buy all the switches, solonoids and floats!
Was it Hackensack or Redback Vetrinary Hospital? I know they just did a tank in Redbank not to long ago. Hackensack seems awful far for their reach, especially given the local resources.
We were at Trop tonight, but only for like 5m and didn't get a chance to talk to anyone. Wish I had gotten...
If you nudged that candy it would come right off of that rock whole. No fragging necessary. Then just use lock-tite glue to relocate it to another rock.
The package probably costs 2.00. I was taking that from GEBC, the guy who posted the parts list. I haven't costed them myself. Good catch. I'll have to send a scout to HD.
I've updated the spreadsheet to a better WAG on the screws.
We'll go forward in any case. Hopefully more takers will jump in.
Total cost should be around 110 per reactor based on the following spreadsheet:

Shipping will go up a little/down a little depending on how much pipe we have to order.
I need to borrow one. I have to get this dragon wrasse out of my 65. That boy needs a tank with no sand. It actually took me about a week to realize that the cloudy water was actually a sand storm. Grrr.
