    DI resin regeneration

It depends, do you have separate beds or a mixed bed. If mixed beds it is a real pain in the ass to separate the resins, which HAVE to be separated. You also have to get some very nasty chemicals to do this a follow disposal procedures.

    Ph issues

Gonzapa is my understanding that the difference in PH at this point would be due to the different amount of CO2 in the water. I the difference is extrmely high then I will have to figure out how to better aereate the tank with fresh air to raise PH ( I already have an air line from the outside...

    Anyone using Seachem Marine buffer?

You should NOT be using this in a reef tank. Even SeaChem does not recommend it. It is for FOT tanks, where balance is not really an issue.. It will jack up your Alk to high and give false high Alk readings due to the excessive Borate it has. You DO NOT add buffers for pH, only Alk,.However, if...

Seachem Prime - What is it really doing?

Meaning Dave, the NO2 and NO3 is a claim based on false pretense, as they themselves don't' know. They say it bring about detoxification. Based on what tests and how do they know it brings about detoxification. Meaning, what evidence is there from tests, even if they do not know how the...

Seachem Prime - What is it really doing?

Dave, the product works fine as far as a dechlor or dechloram. It is well know that certain chemical based substances can take chlorine or chloramine and break them down and or covert then to a non-toxic form. As far as the NO2 and NO3 I find that as so much gibberish as none of them that make...

    GFO storage question

Not all GFO is "wet", some forms are hydrated and some are unhyhdrated, it depends on the type, of which there are about 8 of but only about 4 sold in this hobby. Most do to get into the crystal chemistry of GFO's. For example, there is what is called the minerals Goethite and Limonite which are...

How often should you change carbon

GAC can go a month in most systems and should be removed and washed well 1 / wk and replaced 1/ m. If one is using a reactor then 1/m without cleaning, as reactors are mostly self-cleaning. As has been point out all GAC is not the same nor is the bioload. Furthermost, flow rates may differ form...

    PH problems

You have a high CO2 issue, try reading through this. And you are not suppose to be adding buffer to raise the pH. Buffers are for Alk only. Low pH: Causes and Cures http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.htm

    sulfur/calcium reactor combo anyone?

Neither "eat" much Mg++. It may have been leaving soltuion as Hi-Mg-Calcite precip, especially on any fresh carbonate surfaces like sand or gravel.

    sulfur/calcium reactor combo anyone?

[b]We used a low end dual chamber Ca reactor and put the sulfer in one chamber and dolomite (magnesium media) in the second chamber.[/]b Dolomite :o That is a no-no and should not exceed 10 - 15 % or so of the total reactor media. Meaning 90 % Aragonite and 10 % Dolomite. It can raise your...

    Calcium ?

[b]I was putting purple up in but stopped and the reading is still that high. [/n] That is more than likely is it right there. PU can cause some awful funny readings in high Alk and Ca++ at times. Often it is both that are high but more normally it is just the Alk. That tank should be a...

    PH question

Jim it is fine as long as you can test for it A few years back some lab assays where done on a number of reef tanks and where 2-90 x the Iodine of NSW. IO was almost 5 x out of the bag. Then their are all the foods added that have Iodine. Many like to claim the Iodine is needed for shrimp molts...

    My ammonia is high???

Freshly made salt mix has ammonia often ~ 0.25 ppm. In an established tank this is not an issue. Some kits like the Salifert give a false reading as a precip is formed from the high pH of the reagent which produces Magnesium hydroxide, which you may mistake as Ammonia. Check your kit in somebody...
