on the high alk/high calc question - sorry to do this to you - but as I don't want to pretend I am an expert here - I am just passing along info for you to read. ;)

Same author - different topic. I think you're in zone 4.
no worries. ;D ;D ;D
But back to your original question - I personally think it should be fine. I forgot an old trick to try out.
Take a cup of water - measure the PH - then vigorously stir it/(even better add an airstone).
Then test it again.
if the pH goes up - your tank has too much...
sorry missed that. ::)
Have you ever measured the PH of the water before you add it to the tank?
fyi - salinity is measured in ppm - what you have posted is specific gravity.
pssst - on the net - it is impolite to write in all caps - unless you are really really mad at me for not realizing...
nice job figuring out the pics! the before was really nice...i'm sorry to see the aftermath.
People will give you different numbers because this is one of those things where there isn't a "right" answer. I've seen tank of the month threads with very slow flow thru the sump - and I've seen just...
yes - so if you had a mag 7 (this pump works best in a sump) - the pump would pull water from your sump, and push the water up a pipe to your display tank.
Now if the mag 7 is too powerful, then it will pump more water than the overflow can send down.
To fix this, you can T it so that one leg...
I have used it (along with lugols) as a dip for all corals before I introduce them into the display.
I've never used any medications for the display...knock on wood.
Welcome to NJRC
The pump needs to be rated to match whatever your overflow can handle. Keep in mind a pump will lose gph the further the pump is from the tank. This is known as "head loss". I'm not a fan of HOB overflows but they should typically say how much flow it can handle.
If you have a...
Unfortunately dfm is breaking down his tank. I don't think he needs more advice on maroon clowns pairing... ::)
