I will also point out that you have 6 fish in a 34G tank. If that is not overstocked it is close and you have to feed more then your biological filters can probably handle. That plus tap water makes a murky situation. Make sure you stir up your tank before water changes to get out as much crap...

Don't really think it will help. I think it is more a nutrient issue then a light one. Not like it needs high light so you are always going to have some spilloff. I know if I tried it I would break my light and electrocute myself. ;D

I have 8x54 T5 over a 120 I would say about 8 inches above the water. You don't lose a lot of par going through air. :)

It is easier on fish to drop the salinaty then raise it. You will find that even if you use RO water and 10% water changes daily it will take a couple days. This is what I do when I drop the salinity in my QT. From 1.023 1.009 takes about a week. Just watch the salinity.

I like your list a lot.  They pygmy angel is safer then the coral beauty FYI, the two that mnat gave you are also pretty safe.  Flame is probably a tad safer then the coral beauty.  All angels (IMHO the pygmy is really almost completely safe) present some risk. +1 on cover with blue spot you...
