PC or T5
Really doesn't matter but easier to recomend exact bulbs....10K, ATI blue(something in the 14K range or mix PC bulb) and one true actinic. The par will be higher for the blueish bulb vs actinic...will give some corals more pop...ditto fish...then a 10K.
I would break out the old turkey baster too ... you can blow the stuff loose and then remove it. Temp IMHO has something to do with it too, maybe higher temp creates lower O2 or something.
I agree with Hawk...cyano aside the tank looks super nice.
Sorry I read it in both threads hopefully someone will chime in on how to get them out....I don't know? Is there some sort of cover in place that you cannot get out? Check online for an owners manual is the only thing I can think of.
I think you need some sand but no particular depth...they mostly crawl about on top of the sand bed stuffing their hole with sand. They don't go deep so maybe an inch?
101 Saltwater Fishes gives a more detailed size chart and compatibility.
As Hawkeye said a hippo in a 72 G would be OK for a while but they get big and are really active, minimum 120 G is really true. They are also POOP factories.
I think one is acrylic....one is glass? Not 100 percent sure.
You also have a couple other choices
There is the 24 G Aqua Pod
Finnex makes a nice nano.
There are a couple others too with slightly different shapes and lighting choices.
I cannot remember all of them to be honest.
Red Sea makes...
My Tech does not have center brace, my 55G FW tank has a 2bulb T5 and sits right on top of it, though it does have a splash guard, just doesn't get that hot.
Drs Foster and Smith is probably the cheapest way to get name brand aquarium sand...they charge shipping by dollar value not weight. So you can get say three bags of dry sand one live and shipping is cheap enough to make it cheap.
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
Thanks a lot!!! I love the LPS under the actinics and blue lights. Wish I could get some good pictures.
One thing I have noticed is that I have to dose a whole lot more two parts then I used to to keep the everything where it should be.
Hope to...
I would say the Mag 9.5 if you are going with a Mag pump yes.
If check out my tank thread you can see some of the growth...as I have upgraded the bulbs I have gotten better and better results FYI. New computer so have some problems with getting my files uploaded.
All the snails you get in the LFS are fine, your invert group is fine you can probably have a few more snails. I don't know about stores up north the farthest north I go is Aquatic Obsessions, OGII and Red Sand. They are all off the 287 corridor more or less.
If the fan is directly over a bulb...
I have a 120 Tech too....similar size sump and have a custom skimmer...someone has a nice cone skimmer for sale here that would be good. I have 8x54W T5 Catalina Aquarium fixture. Mag 12(would do Mag 9.5 next time). Have two K4s 2 MJ900s on wavemaker. Mixed reef.
I have a Naso and a Hippo tang...
Lights are good, you could switch the bulbs right? So the fan comes on with the blue light all day?
You could add one emerald crab, I have not had problems with them some have some not.
I guess I feed plenty so they don't go looking for food where they shouldn't.
Snails are always good and...
8x54...I have Catalina Aq. fixture and with better bulbs (think bulb upgrade over time is extremely important with T5 lighting) I have maxima clam on the bottom and it has added a ring since MACNA....and my derasa has gone from 2in to 5in in a year. My RBTA is down almost on the bottom too so...
