hmmmm- I just picked up ReefInvertebrates by Fenner/Calfo and on page 170 they talk about feeding dusters and it's not very optimistic. Lets just try something like DT's live phyto and see if that helps. There's also phytofeast or phytofeastlive that I know at least two or three other people on...

nice rock given all the living things - where did you get it?

    Crab Identification

ah...a topic not about lights or skimmers! lol. The closest you can get to an identification of a hitcher crab is family...don't even try genus or species. That family would be the Xanthidae Family. Some crabs in the xanthid family are actually friendlies - like the pompom crab. But the...

hate to be the bearer of bad news - but if the duster popped it's top - it's basically starving. That top is a complicated fleshy method for them to capture food (phyto). If there's not enough food - it will get rid of the top (since it takes a lot to maintain) and grow another. It cannot do...

    Phyto Feast?

it just occurred to me that phyto is also necessary for filter feeders like feather dusters.

Welcome to NJRC! What size tank and what kind of inhabitants? Looks like a maroon clown? also I see some cool feather worms...just be sure you feed them!

    First tank 29gal

I was thinking more "neutral zone". ;) unfortunately I could not locate the "original" ST pics of the bird of prey...btw if the stars look like an "asterina" (google it) then some say good - and some say bad - hence the neutral zone! ;)

    Little Neck Clams

LOL - yeah I was thinking that clams could (in ideal scenarios) live upwards of 200 years...what's a couple years shaved off? But seriously - they are particle (or is it particular? =) ) filter feeders...there's no zooxanthellae so if you have clear water and just high nitrates - they aren't...

    That Fish Place Coupons

I believe the coupon is also only valid on wednesdays and in-store. In the past it wasn't valid on livestock or on fishtanks - I presume that is still the case. I dunno - while 30% off a single item is tempting but then you pay tax there, and then you have to pay all that gas and tolls.

For the Model Railroad Crew - Direct from Scenic Utah!

That would be so cool...even better if you hook a little wireless webcam to the train - then you could see your reef tank from "within"! then pray that the bulkhead doesn't fail

    Little Neck Clams

nice...but keep in mind Mercenaria mercenaria doesn't live in tropical temps 24/7 365 a year. So while it may live in your tank, they probably are on an accelerated metabolism/lifespan. Off-topic...I've been to Maine in the heat of July and that water is COLD! It doesn't get warmer than 60 and...

Jasonanatal's JBJ 28 gallon Nano Cube HQI Nano Reef Aquarium.

looks good...and the kid is growing up fast! I'm not so sure on the power blue in the tank - but your argument is reasonable. It would be preferable to have a big tank and a vortech. Speaking of which - I know previously you were thinking of upgrading to a larger tank before the landlord...

    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my 120 welcome back - how's the tank? corals/fish all fine I presume? Curious if you had a fish-sitter or just left it alone.

Best SPS lighting (in your eyes)

yep and SPS if kept towards the higher end of the tank can be kept successfully even with a bank of VHOs. Ralph has a bank of vhos and keeps a tank full of gorgeous btas.

    Sump noobie help

I have seen fugs with a lot of flow and fugs with slow flow. In this hobby - there really isn't anything "optimum" - just whatever works best for you. For those with big tanks, they did to "optimize" it against the size of the bulkheads/overflows. Now we're talking about your 29G tank right? if...

    First tank 29gal

Hate to say this - but to the right of the zoa - that looks like an anemone...and not the kind you want to have in the tank. Is there a stalk? Is that stalk soft? hard? If it's hard - it could be a cup coral. if it's soft - I think you may need something to remove it. The frogspawn looks great...
