Even if the uv had enough energy to kill the free swimming stage of ich I don't think it would/could eradicate ich from the system. For a uv to kill something it must pass through the uv unit itself. Ich lays dormant on the substrate for upwards of a month before free swimming ich searches for...
Thanks Dan. Those are 2 no name frags I had from my frag tank. The sunny d's I got from you are still in the frag tank. They are doing very well I'll try to post up a picture later.
+1. I would think a check valve with metal in it would rust out very quickly making them ineffective not to mention leaching things into your tank. If you want to run a check valve use a quality true union check valve like Paul said and clean it often or use a wye check valve and clean it...
Thank you jim. I'm pretty happy with how things are turning out.
Thanks. I still have to play around with the light height and placement. They have only been in there a few days and came from under LEDs so they have a little adjusting to do.
Thanks Darren. I'll definitely be in touch, I'll...
Little update:
Things seem to be coming together nicely. I'm fighting some diatoms at the moment but that is to be expected. The firefish are doing very well and eating like champs. I moved 2 frags that I had multiples of over from the frag tank and they are doing very well too. I added 3...
Good call only doing a few fish at a time. As far as acclimation goes I wouldn't suggest anything other than drip acclimation for fish. I usually float the bag for 10-15 minutes to match temp between the bag and the tank and drip until I at least double the amount of water the fish was packed...
They are great lights in my opinion. Very well made. I have a 6x39w tek elite. I used it on my previous tank and now on my new tank. I have no complaints other than I feel the acrylic
Splash guard could have been designed a little better
I have to agree that it's too many fish for that size tank. Take a look at what you really want and start to narrow down your list. Also I would steer clear of the Catalina goby. They need cooler water than most keep a reef tank at. They may tolerate it for a while but not very long
I have seen one or 2 fail but they were old (3-4 years). Other than that they seem to be pretty good. Just make sure you inspect it every so often to make sure it's working and a cleaning every now and then doesn't hurt.
