Dude a sailfin tang belongs in a 150+ gallon tank. UPPPPGRRRADDEE PARTY!!!!! Don't turn the skimmer off obviously they are packed in that tank. Don't do a 60G tank if you like fish you need to really crank it up size wise even a 75 G is small for a sailfin and the trigger. IMHO even as small...

Just a couple of the many articles you can find if you google T5 vs MH analysis.
I am glad to help, but since I am sure you all know how to google something I figured you could find some yourself. I admit I missed your "less heat" part of the comment since the rest of...
Mr X I disagree completely and I know the math is out there to back me up so am not going to do it again. My T5s are not that hot. I have seen some nice MH burns something that I have never had with my T5s. Unless you are talking a deeper then standard 24 inch tank I believe it to be preference...
Could it also be that he is the largest fish in the tank and one of the most active? Do you have surface turbulence for O2 exchange? If other fish are hurting even to a lesser degree that is a problem.
I think it is preference...shimmer vs cost and heat.
Check out this all T5 tank.

I have a controller now and one old style thermometer. I just want them close though they are a bit different at this point not too far out of wack. Just double check your temp I guess is what I am suggesting.
I agree with you Rbu1 QT is the only way to go. I believe there are some pretty viable ways, copper, hyposalinity, cloriquine, and perhaps herbal. I believe in the whole garlic rid ick(the herbal one) but more in the keeping your fish healthy then treating them sort of way.
Be careful as most...
Dr Jim does have some alternate medications for sale I believe. Could give it a try. I didn't use copper in mine I went with salinity. For me it worked.
I used a 24G AP for my QT, kept a naso and hippo tang for about 6 weeks I think no issues...I provided some PVC pipes for hiding spots and did very frequent water changes, about every other day. I would say you really have to keep up with that in a smaller tank. If you can add some sort of...
You can try Shan, website below.
He built my sump and skimmer. It was pretty reasonable. Can do custom work which I guess you will need.

What are you using for thermometer? I ask because I had one of those cheap electric ones and it was waaaayyyy off. Caused some of your problems, and even this summer my tank got a bit to warm and got some of those same problems.
I have used UVL bulbs mostly. I did add one 460nm blue bulb gives great color, par stinks from what I was able to research, it is a coralife bulb, but I have a Ice Cap deepwater to swap it out with eventually. A lot of folks love the ATI bulbs. I think it is really all preference though the...
I have used an aqualifter....I have only a half run as I have a crawlspace next to the tank...split level. I understand they are not super reliable, I have had it running about 6 months with no issues. If I have to swap it out every year or so no big deal they are pretty cheap. I am running mine...
