Mike C's 420 Gallon System build - First salt water reef!

Mine is up and running and when you are learnining to tune the thing, having that auto shut off is clutch unless you like floods.

Mike C's 420 Gallon System build - First salt water reef!

Thread moved. I am still slowly building out my system but coming to the end. I did the same thing, bought things in little bunches and tried to get them through group buys and on sale. Did you get the skimmer collection unit from Reef Octopus as well with the auto shut off? Really is a...

kevin's first saltwater 50g cube build

You might want to give that torch a little more room around it. They can extend much beyond what we see them do. I love the gold torch (ours is only one head at this point) but they are still torches.

    T-5 Replacement Bulb Recommendations

I have the 24 inch in my one fixture and the 36 inch bulb in the other (24 inch is 5 bulbs 36 inch is 6 bulb). Honestly it is hard to see with the naked eye because you are going form roughly 12k to 14k which is tough to see. I just like the way the corals look under the coral plus bulb.

    T-5 Replacement Bulb Recommendations

I run pretty much this, however I swapped out the aquablue special with their new coral plus bulb. A tad bit bluer.

    Acans colors fading?

Yeah you basically need to have them on the sandbed and probably in some shade if you want to keep those colors. I was in pretty much the exact situation, bought some nice rainbows from WWC and put them under my AI LEDs. They both turned orange with no other colors. Now they are puffy and...

"If you have $ for a new tank then you should have $ to add a new bathroom" Wife

This is where reefer logic comes into play. "Honey with the current light fixture, I have to replace the bulbs every 6 months which adds up. Also it is going to make the tank look nicer if I upgrade and I want the tank to look good for you. We would actually be saving money by upgrading."

    NCPARS Swap

No, just wanted to throw it up to help out a fellow club. That is quite a hike for us and Nikki is arriving from LA at about 2 am tonight/tomorrow so the last thing she will want to do it travel.

What size Mp for a 40B

One is wireless, as in it will sinc with other mps so they all run together. I have run a mp10 on my 45 cube but that is a 2x2 tank. I am not sure with the lenth of a 40b if that will be enough. This is where an mp20 would probably be perfect excpet they don't make those anymore. A mp40...

Keeping my dkh at the same level

Here is the problem, when you add alk you are dropping calcium and if you added all the calcium (not at once but over a few days) you will lower your alk. You need to start dosing them together to bring them up together.

    Starting Bio-Pellets

The standard one has a sponge on the bottom to keep gfo/carbon in place. This clogs and needs to be cleaned which is fine for gfo/carbon which needs to be replaced almost on the same schedule. With biopellets everyone uses screens that don't get clogged or gunky because you need to let the...

    Lowering Nitrates without a skimmer

Carbon will help. I think what people are trying to figure out is your source of nitrates. In a nano everything is just so magnified. I am also a big fan of just a few large water changes. Like %50 a week for like 4 weeks. Or do them twice a week. The benefits to a nano is that you can do...

    MACNA Today

It is really tough to do one in the state of New Jersey for one big reason, the convention centers are run by the unions. This is NOT a bash on unions at all so please don't take it that way I am just stating the fact here. The cost of dealing with the unions for an event like this is almost...

    Alk low

Hannah Alk also matched up within margin of error for our salifert Alk. It is the calcium one that is really tough to get an accurate reading from.
