Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
LOL. I totally understand...but unfortunately you've set your sights on the one invert that is rather sensitive to water chemistry and I'd definitely wait until the bloom is over and your tank becomes more "second nature" to you rather than the "lemme go grab all the test kits and check...
Nice! um- while my ego loves to be built up by folks calling me phyl (aka el presidente), I'm actually just "phil"...the new guy/mod. :)
So if you plan on adding corals the question then becomes - what kind? There are quite a few 120 tale of the tanks you should go check out for ideas...
However it is done - take your time. The key for most of our inhabitants is nice and slow transition, not wild fluctuations. I'd rather be at 1.024 then to jump to say 1.028 by accident tomorrow. Make sure you are measuring the salinity with a refractometer (sorry if that is obvious). It would...
This is probably obvious - but will ask - is the pump an external or internal in the sump pump? I'd consider placing something underneath the pump to help defray the vibrations. Not sure what you define as loud tho...
A condylactis can be pretty and very inexpensive, but they tend to be fish-eaters (though that did not stop my maroon clown from forcing it to be it's host). I would suggest instead of a hard-to-keep specimen caught from the wild, that perhaps you ask for a "clone" of an existing anemone. One...
Make sure whatever you start dosing you also have a handy test kit to measure the results. No sense dosing something you're not sure what the result will be.
For a complete list of suggested water params to observe - check out the article by Dr. RHFarley - it's a sticky on the top of this forum...
nice...I dunno about you but I was like a kid at the candy store when I was opening up part 2. Weird part for me was part one had zero mantis but a few pistols and part 2 I had five mantis - which I sold off to the local reef club in ny (where I lived at the time). Be sure to post pics!
Jabis - there is a sponsors link you could check out - and also some of them have boards here. I think AquaticObsessions is great as well but there may be other stores near you that can supply it.
Besides that I am told adding something like garlic may also help trigger a feeding response. Did...
I believe you could still get the ducts clean - just ask them not to use the disinfectant.
I dunno - our cleaners used Envirocon disinfectant...but this was when we first moved in (nothing set up).
Alternatively you could also go to a local seafood store (an asian market will typically have a seafood section/wet section) and get the shrimp (with the head even).
WELCOME to NJRC!
Nice friends! The choices wouldn't have been my preference but we make do with what we can get right?
First you have to ask yourself what you envision the tank to be.
If you come up with "a tank with LR and fish" - then let's go from there:
A FOWLR (fish only with live rock)...
So any pics of the mantis interloper? Have you caught it yet or given up?
Also any idea when richard is getting your part 2? Or have you not given him the ok because the mantis is displaying incredible intelligence with regards to eluding capture? ;)
what kind of algae?
honestly there are two ways to look at this - prevention and reaction.
Prevention:
Algae grows thanks to excess nutrients in the tank and phosphates also help drive the growth. Prevention includes reducing the amount of food in the tank, increased flow, getting a better...
You may think you're not impacted but I guarantee the NYSE is going to get pounded tomorrow.
Hope anyone who works at Bear or JP is unaffected. When big companies merge/buy you just never know. Would like to pass along any resumes but we've got a hiring freeze at our co. :P
JPMorgan to buy...
hehe - on another board there would be serious flames coming your way after the first post - let alone the second. But you're in good company here and magic definitely speaks for me as well in that there was no intention of trying to patronize or belittle you. I think the internet board...
That first pic of the skimmer cup - just for a brief second I was like - why the heck is this guy posting a pic of a mug of guinness? Really gorgeous pics!
