Thanks for the explanation Phyl. I saw them advertised in TFH and looked them up because they really looked to be a great middle ground like you said. Almost MH with lower heat and electricity. With T5 suplementation I would guess they would be pretty good. I would really like to see them. Do...
I saw that fixture but the bulbs are actually HM right? That was what I understood the HID to be when I looked it up. At first I thought it was LED but then MH. Honestly bit confused. ???
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
You get to go to AO and buy a 2 dollar thermometer and then proceed to spend your budget on other stuff....oh wait that is what I did. ;)
I loose about a gallon a day...think as the furnace is on more it is increasing a bit.
Certainly...
If it is your sand then you know that you don't have any problems like copper.
Just make sure you don't add any livestock right away because you could release ammonia and other baddies I think.
What have you been adding to the water to get your calcium so high? Do you have corals in the tank at this point? IMHO on a 30G tank a calcium reactor might be overkill especially if you don't have a tank full of SPS.
Why don't you give us a complete recap on your tank? And include a couple...
Wow just got the tank up and no power...good news is the flood test passed :o probably not the smartest way to find out if it would be OK.
Everyting looks OK I didn't loose much heat.
It is a T valve that mechanically opens and closes one side to the other. Gives you alternating movement.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
Here are some pictures from yesterday.
Was cool I got to see Phils tank last night and his setup. Next on my list is to put my top off water in the crawl space. Next month going to go ATO.
Does anyone have a water change pump hooked up...
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
I wondered where I came up with the idea that we were talking about last night.
Your daughter is very cute it was nice to meet your family.
Very nice job!!! Looks great for first or 50th build.
Just as a suggestion (though I don't think it is super cheap) There is a rotating return valve that attatches to the tank. It was suggested to me but didn't work on my tank. Here is the quote.
Could be great for you though with your build...
I threw that disclaimer in because I have "read" they are more reasonable...and I was sure someone was going to call me to the mat on that.
I wouldn't do it personally because like you I have my little bi-color devil still.
There is a reason why he is my oldest fish.
The family is best left alone.(I know there are couple exceptions..orchid) I will say they are hardy as all get out. But mine has killed more then it's fair share of tankmates from inverts to smaller fish. Never again. Upside was in the transfer to larger tank it became less troublesome. I don't...
Re: Here's my 120
Wow that is a lot of crap...better you then me ..but I mean that with all due respect because for sure if all that happened to me I would have a 120 gallons of disaster. Sounds like you pulled back from the brink of disaster. Experience really counts obviously.
If you can reduce the amount of dissolved organics you will "reduce" the amount of nuisances as far as algae and diatoms go. But as Phyl said get used to it because you will always have something to do.
Hello welcome to NJRC.
So far some good advice. Try to forget the flame scallop, you can feed them but they do not survive well at all in our tanks and we are trying to save reefs not lose them.
That can segue to banggai cardinal fish, they are rapidly becoming endangered and it is due to us, so...
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
Haven't seen it yet. I have a few little ones and one good sized one haven't seen any problems so far. Both tangs are becoming more and more social, naso is just about eating out of my hand again. Glad to hear about your sand...you would...
