Is it the brightwell Alk 8.3? If so it is good stuff and yes would be redundant using with 2 part.

    Is a CA Reactor Needed?

I would keep it, even though you might not feel you need all that calcium in the tank the main thing is it will help you keep your calc and alk parameters steady which is still important for zoas and LPS.

    My 280g build....

Sounds like a great plan Steve, it was very nice briefly meeting you at trop the other day. I know there are a lot of local people who would help you out with the tank move. I would also ask Trop if you can borrow their suction cup moving things. They make the job 10 times easier.

    Changing Salt

That is the thought, go slow and steady. By doing smaller ones every week you should be able to ease your way into it. You can also test your system as far as alk, calc, and mag go and test the newly mixed salt water to see if they are way off. If they are then you might want to go even...

Added this new green monti...a few ?'s

Montipora spongedes, not sure on the spelling of the second part. Very easy to keep coral, generally a SPS training wheels type.

    NJR's 55G

The scientific name is Acanthastrea Lordhowensis which was shortened to Acan Lord and now just Acan as they have become incredibly popular and available in the recent past. Looks like a nice frag, watch the angel around it. Angels are known to like fleshy LPS, like an acan, and if it looks...

    High School Reefer Madness

Essentially you need to introduce a form of ammonia to kickstart the cycle to get your tank ready. Back in the day, people would add a damsel fish but that practice really ended because it is really inhumane to the fish and nobody wants the damsel in their tank because of how nasty and hard to...

    Trivan's 45 Cube

Really like the pictures, go team 45g! Is that a branching monti in the third pic? It is really nice. For the gorgonians (especially the blueberry) what are you feeding it? I would recommend getting decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. You can easily feed those a few times a day. The blueberry...

    Glass lids

Make sure before you switch from the glass tops you have something in place for the evaporation because it will start to happen.

    Glass lids

Glass lids are generally taken off for two reasons. The first is what you alluded about with light penetration through the glass and also the fact that the glass will get build up on which takes away from it. The second reason is heat, glass traps the heat in the tank which can make your tank...

Brown Alage in 5 yr old 30 gallon reef tank.

Looks like cyano, can't really tell from the pics. Have you had any temperature issues recently? How long are you running the light for? When you replaced the bulb, how old was the bulb before it? How deep is your sand bed and as Nikki said did anything churn it up recently? Have you ever...
