I’m interested in the skimmer if it will fit into a JBJ 28. I’m not familiar, but is it a hang-on-the-back or does it need to go into water? If anyone knows, I’d appreciate comment.
Jason, that thing is a beast!
The angle of the photo makes it look like the skimmer is part of the hallway table….with the family picture on top of the skimmer.
Edwin, I’d never, ever say you were wasting your time. If it makes you feel warm and fuzzy, keep doing it. :D Now I can’t remember the simplest of derivations in calculus, but I will assure you that it takes many, many feet and a lot of heat to get significant transfer of heat. I...
John, also make sure the container doesn’t block the drain or you’ll be having yet another “DOH!” moment. I stick the handle of a knife under the edge of the container to make sure the excess water has a place to drain.
Put the five gallon container in the sink so when it overflows, it just goes down the drain. I do this in the wash sink in our laundry room.
The other option, which I use on my 55 gallon waste water container, is a water alarm. When water hits the sensor, it sets off a loud alarm. I’ve...
It’s been too many years since I’ve done the calculations, but I would surmise that with the flow rate, size of the tubing, and heat transfer rates, that you would need 30 – 50 feet of tubing in that five gallon bucket to see a significant temperature swing. In addition, if you were getting...
The one problem with this premise is that you never nail it. There are times you think you’ve nail it, and while you’re sitting back basking in the glory of a marvelous tank, it sneaks up and hits you. You don’t see it coming. It can’t even be defined. But it is there lurking in the...
I have the 1500 gph Glass-Holes as well. With this one you have two, 1 ½ lines coming out the back of the overflow (and through your glass). The 700 only has one 1 1/2” line coming out the back. Here’s the back of my tank where you can see the two fat pipes for the overflow. The ¾ pipe...
Glass-holes overflow……700 gph should do it. Kit comes with everything, including the drill bit.
HERE’s how you tell if the glass is tempered. You cannot drill tempered glass.
+1 for the Reefbreeder LED's. These are not the Chinese fixtures of old. They have been great improvements in them.....gigantic aluminum heat sink, dual fan control that match the intensity of light, bridgelux leds, full spectrum (has the violet/red/green LEDs), optics.....all good stuff...
