There was also a terrible smell coming from the tank, thought it was the skimmer cup but it was not. Two snails got stuck onto the top of the overflow box and died. Those two little guys stunk the whole room up.

Quick update, I bought a shopvac and they make water changes the easiest thing in the world. Stick hose in sump, 10 seconds later the water is out, highly recommended. Pulled the filter socks, was not a huge fan of them. AI units are up and running, started at 30%, going to ramp up slowly.

Forgot to mention we have a 36inch 6 bulb TEK t5 fixture. It very much needs new bulbs, we were going to put it over the 57g but went with LEDs instead. It comes with the feet, I do not have the hanging kit. I could let this go for $175

The higher the temp the more their metabolism kicks up. At that temp you will probably need to feed several times a day. The ideal temp for them is down around 68-72.

Glad to hear you are turning the corner, we have to keep the 45g club going strong. We finally got a drilled 45g, and it is great not to have everything HOB any more.

To seed live sand, get live sand or rock from a trusted close reefer and add it to your tank. You can buy the live sand and that will work out fine as well, just cheaper if you have something closer. You can also do a search for garf's grunge, also good stuff to help establish a tank with.
