    DIY Nano Cube Stand

Wire Closet Closing Mechanism Below are the details on how the wire closet will be kept closed. With the wire closet in place, a hole was drilled to fit a ¼ - 20 thumb screw (slightly larger than a ¼” hole). This hole went through the closet cover flange and the stand leg…..located about...

    Group Coral Growout

Can someone help me out, just in case I might want to do this in the future. I’m not sure what went on with this group buy. I thought it had something to do with a “grow out.” And then I see that everyone is paying something like $240…..times something like 10 people…to buy coral...

    DIY Nano Cube Stand

Kevin, you're too kind. A fellow reefer stopped by today and commented that he didn’t understand the scale of the wire closet in the above pictures. There was an “ah-ha” moment when he saw the stand. Here’s a picture of the entire stand, where you can see the location of the wire closet...

    75g Bar Tank

Wow, with a bar sink! From the size of that propane tank, someone does some serious pipe sweating! Add in one more tee on the cold water line so your RO/DI will be right there. Looking really nice; keep the pictures coming.

Wire closet Made a wire closet for all the electronic stuff. A trapezoidal box was made with ½ inch ply top and bottom….1/4 ply all sides. Here’s a front/top view: And back/top view: Trapezoid angle was 30 degrees. This box fits into the back side of the stand by one...

    JBJ ATO Question

Thanks Brian. I’m not familiar with this ATO, so I set it up with a light plugged into the controllable outlet to check its functions. The first thing noted was that one of the float switches was DOA. So I now only have one anyway. But verifying what Brian said, after a couple minutes...

    JBJ ATO Question

I picked up a used JBJ ATO to use on a JBJ 28 tank. My interests were to set it up using both floats to turn the pump off when they “floated”. I basically want a two float system to assure when one switch went bad, the other would still turn off the pump to the water reservoir. So I’m...

    Acan question

First off, I thought filefish were iffy when it came to coral. You might be onto something here.....either all that aptasia X and/or all that death of the little devils. I'd do a relatively large water change....in the 30% range or higher.

    Acan question

How long have you had it and where is it in relationship to light and flow? Have you changed anything….lights, salt, dosing, reactors? What do you do to dose and what are you alk, calc and mag numbers? What’s the frequency of water changes and volume? What is your nitrate looking like...

    Salt Poll

I just looked at the “poll” selections…..and “Table Salt” in on there. Is this actually something people use??? If they do, I’m hoping they at least use the non-iodized table salts.

    Salt Poll

Reef Crystals since the beginning (five plus years). But I’m now in the process of switching over to Instant Ocean. I want control over my alk and cal, and I wasn’t getting it from RC....too much variability.

    Sunny's FOWLR build thread ....

Sunny, that’s a nice looking sump. Mike, here’s the sump before being put into the stand….you can see the whole thing. This picture was taken in my living room, where I built the sump on our coffee table, which for some reason wasn’t appreciated by my wife. :o Women!

    Coral noob

I’m not sold on drip/water acclimation of corals. I temperature acclimate by floating and then dip in Bayer. I see no need to drip/water acclimate when the coral is going into a nasty dip solution. After spending 15 to 20 minutes in the dip, I rinse with tank water and in it goes.

    Will this work

    1. water changes 2. water changes 3. water changes 4. feed less You have a nutrient problem. Cut down on feeding and be presistent in water changes. If after multple water changes it isn't improving, google hydrogen peroxide dosing.

    Jawfish

Kevin, when I was down at Big Pine Key and we went out in the boat, we were either spearing for grouper or jew, or looking for coral heads and picking lobster. It got to the point that I was sick of eating lobster. “How could we cook it tonight?” Believe me, I’ve had lobster every which...

    Jawfish

Actually I think the name of the fish came from the fact that it was the largest common fish that Jewish folks could eat….something about having scales and fins, I think??? I’m sure if you google it you’ll find the origins of the fishes name.
