    Jawfish

Darn! I’ve already got my fins, mask and spear gun together and was ready to head to your house to get that jewfish out of your overflow.

    Jawfish

Jewfish in an aquarium? I ask this with great ignorance. I use to spear these guys in the early 70's in Florida. The ones we would spear were in the grouper family. We were spearing small ones at around 70 - 80 pounds....but I believe they grew to 300 to 400 pounds. I just wouldn't...

Idea for the rock should I upgrade

Yes, a concrete saw....and the large ones wouldn't have a problem cutting through a 7 or 8 inch piece of rock. I wasn't even thinking about these saws, but that might be the way to go......however, real messy...do it outside.

Idea for the rock should I upgrade

When you say “slices,” realize a tile saw cannot cut thick stuff. It’s good for cutting tile…..maybe an inch or so in depth at max…that’s it. If you want to make slices of the rock, like slices of bread, you’ll need a bandsaw with a diamond blade (a frag saw). And with that, you’re limited...

    Poll on LEDS

Over the 90 I have two old school Apollo’s….non-dimable. Over the JBJ-28 a “Chinese” fixture just like the Reefbreeder or the the Evergrow 120d. The only thing I can say is that these new Chinese fixtures are not the fixtures of the past. My biggest complaint about older Chinese fixtures...

Wire Framing???? You don’t want to use any metal in the tank. What I’ve seen used is plastic rod with epoxy. You drill holes in the rock with a masonary bit and install the plastic rod with some epoxy. An inexpensive rod that works well is clothes hangers. Just cut the hangers into...

    Diy ato

A 110 volt float switch is very expensive….in excess of $60. I would recommend running a low voltage switch through a relay to run the Aqualifter pump. Aquahub makes a nice little kit that comes with everything you’ll need. I used the “premium” kit to make my ATO. And I use an Aqualifter...

    DIY Nano Cube Stand

So I finished putting the molding on the stand and plenty of wood filler. After a good sanding, I started priming. I had the stand lying on its back. My wife walks in and says, “When I die I want you to make a little window in my coffin, just like this coffin, so I can look out.” So now...

Building a custom glass sump - need advice

One more thing....you don't want that real thin window pane glass like you find at HD or Lowes. I would suggest a minimum of 3/16 inch glass (ca 5 mm).

Building a custom glass sump - need advice

    1. Decide the height of your baffles.....consider wash-back volume from the DT when the pumps are off. 2. Decide on the size of each section.....skimmer sized to fit....return section.....refugium. 3. Consider if you wish to add a sock. 4. Have the glass cut 1/16 less than the inside width of...

    Drilling a tank

You need to actually have a reservoir of water so that the bit is sitting in water. I would think simply spraying would cause for hot spots, that once wetted, would cool too quickly and cause it to crack. If you had a drill guide (which I highly recommend), add a little plumber’s putty to the...
