We put a yasha goby in our 20g on saturday, saw him for a day or two and then nothing. Then we saw him, well part of him, getting eaten by our hermits. That was fun. Good news is the pistol shrimp it came with is doing well.
One thing you could look into doing is adding Brightwell's Microbacter7. The biopellets are a carbon source for the bacteria to feed on an MB7 is good bacteria. I run BW Reef Biofuel (carbon source) and the MB7 together and have not seen an increase in algae.
What test kit are you using and how old is it? If something like that stays constant even with alk and mag moving, it sounds a bit strange. Also, here is a good link to read:

Considering we are running a 250w MH pendant on a 30g tank, losing some light is probably a good thing. Honestly not that much light is lost. No shadows are cast at all, it just looks a bit dimmer, but all the corlas (SPS included) are still fine. I would be curious to see what type of effect...
It is still in testing and is top secret. If big fish gets notice of this they will sneak into my house and shatter it and then tease my jawfish into jumping. Essentially it is eggcrate cut to cover the whole tank (even around the pumps) with fiberglass screen attatched to the top. A pic for you:
Have not been to Jamiaica in many years, want to go back someday. Aruba is the next trip but that is not until Feb 2011. Trying to shoehorn a trip in sometime this year.
We got our jawfish on saturday and he was burrowed in nicely. Tonight we were watching TV and heard him try to jump then saw him try and jump. Thank god for the jawfish blocker 5000 or he would have been another carpet surfer. Little bugger can generate quite the bit of force. He is now settling...
Jawfish are jumpers make no doubt about it (especially the blue spots). We just bought a second blue spot, after our first one went carpet surfing. If your canopy has no holes in it you should be fine, but just be careful.
Check out these guys, good prices:

In our fuge we have sand, live rock, and several different types of macro algae (chaeto being the biggest). It is also a great place to toss any inverts that become a PITA.
In our 30g we had two birdsnest frags (the green ORA and the red one with purple tips) that we kept on the sand bed. Got amazing growth out of both of them down there. We lost them in a heat event this past summer and got a new green one which we put up near the top on a frag rack. We have not...
