Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
The big question is why would you upgrade your lighting? If your corals are doing fine under this light, then don't do anything. Now if you decided you want to try SPS or clams then yes you might want to upgrade. You can always look at a MH pendant with T5 bulbs if you want to upgrade.
You could go with a dwarf angel in a 50 gallon with no problem. A flame, pygmy or coral beauty would be a beautiful addition to your tank and can go easily into a 50. You could also look at a reef safe wrasse.
Welcome to the club and yes it is addicting. Your lighting will be fine for your tank when you upgrade down the road. The difference between the skimmer is the drain fitting which goes around your powerhead and draws water off of the top of your water line which is supposed to help skimming...
So I start with blackworms and then you throw this at me? :) Just fed the fish blackworms for the first time and it took them a while but they ate them. My duncans and dendro LOVED it. They closed right up and were very happy. How many times a week do you feed the blackworms?
If you reefers who live in central jersey don't want to go all the way up to AO, I know Tropiquarium stocks black worms. I may pick some up this weekend and try it out.
I always thought it was ridiculous how much I could go home with in one trip becaue of how ridiculous the prices are. It is also ridiculous that I will drive over an hour to their ridiculous store for those ridiculous prices. (rediculous)
It may have just been taking a number 2. When anems need to expel waste they can become real small like that. As long as they recover, everything is fine. The only other thing I would check is temperature.
Urchins do eat coraline. Now there seems to be 2 schools of thought out there. 1. Get it out of there because it will go through it. 2. It actually helps to spread coraline becuase it poops it out all over your tank. You can try and add some nori to the tank and hopefully he will take to eating...
What sort of lights do you have on the 14G? You may just want to yank the heater all together. Most nanos don't really need the heaters as the lights will just heat the water. If you have HQI bulbs then you really don't need the heater.
Did you get a phosphate test? Hair algae essentially thrives on three things: Light (especially old bulbs), nitrates, and phosphates. You can't elimnate the light all together but you can decrease your photo period and change the bulbs. Nitrates can be reduced through less feeding and having...
Having a bunch of anem in that sized tank could be a problem like onefish2fish said. You might want to look at picking up another tomato clown and creating a harem.
If you go into the Nano group down a bit lower you will find lots of threads that deal specifically with nano tanks (40g and under). You can always ask questions of those people who have very similiar tanks.
