Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
David, the Hanna meter is supposed to be accurate within +/- 6%, I can't find any info on the accuracy of salifert or elos kits... but if those have a +/- of 4% or more, you could easily have a 10% total difference (if Hanna was showing higher and the others were showing lower than actual.)
I...
My fish get a small dose of flake food via an autofeeder 2x per day. I got in on a group buy with the club a while ago and we bought some high quality flake food from Here which was a custom blend based on the saltwater flake with garlic and extras added in.
Then, every night I feed either...
Have to agree with Mike here. I don't have the Hanna Calc meter (yet... still waiting to see if it's accurate so this thread interested me.) I do have the phosphate and alk meters they make though.
I get wacky readings if there are air bubbles in there after mixing with the reagents. I don't...
I still call BS. That eyeball is NOT a sharks eyeball!
Besides that, look at the size of that cyclops (which was supposedly unborn, found in the womb of a mama dusk shark).
Now take a look at this juvenile new born dusk shark:
That cyclops is waaaaaay too big to be not even born yet.
Don't mean to sidetrack your thread Mike, but this is related to the recent posts here. I have an Eibli Angel, and he doesn't pick on anything other than what I feed him. I was really suprised, but no problems from him at all. Could be luck of the draw, but mine is a great fish!
Here's a pic of...
Mark,
I think they removed that as part of the "fix" of the blue screen some people were getting instead of the photo slideshow. It's gone from my home page now also, if that makes you feel any better.
OK. I was going to get an MJ900 in the GB, but wasn't sure if I was going to need a 1200 or not. I should have gotten one because they were pretty cheap. :(
PM me your address and phone # when you get a chance. Maybe one night after work I can stop by for a few to check it out.
Craig, what size MJ are you using for your TLF reactor? And are you hanging it on the sump or is it remote?
Did you mod the TLF in any way? I've seen a good mod that adds a funnel to the bottom and uses some PVC fittings and it really cranks up the flow.
Would love to stop by sometime and...
I switch mine out every weekend and clean the dirty one... so yea once per week for me.
I plan on starting biopellets soon though, so that may impact how often I need to switch them out.
Ahh, that may be true for you Jim. Some overflow chambers (like mine) also have inlets near the bottom of the tank which is why I said it could drain most of your tank.
If you start to see white bleach out spots, it could be monti eating nudis. Look for lil white critters like this:
... and you should see some tiny round brownish or white eggs, usually on the underside of the monti. If you do, it's only a matter of time before they devour your montis...
Mark, I think Paul is correct with the part you need. It's a standard 1/4" Hex Nipple. The John Guest fittings are a push-in quick connect fitting and yours is definitely a male threaded nipple. I'd suggest trying to keep it all plastic if you can.
As for being able to unscrew the canister...
Debateable. Some people say they can kill small fish when they get very large... but others say they are only scavengers and will eat just about anything (after it's already dead) so when you see it eating a fish, it's likely it was only eating what was already dead.
I have some pretty big...
I started with felt and although I liked the filtration provided, cleaning them was a hassle.
Then I switched to the mesh and cleaning them is really simple.
Does this feel like Deja Vu for you also Jim?
I've never ordered any online, but here are some sources I've researched in the past:
Glass Cages
US Plastics
Glass Guys (in Camden, NJ)
E-T Plastics
And, if you need tools or supplies to work with plastic, try Craftics.net
Hope that helps. Good luck!
With the mesh ones, I just use my garden hose with sprayer attachment and rinse them out with that. I do the outside first, then turn them inside-out and clean the inside. Takes me less than 2 minutes to have it looking like new. ;)
I wanted to mention that too but I forgot before. In my pics you see the fabric type filter socks. I've since changed to the mesh type and find them 1000 times easier to clean. The mesh ones seem to collect just as much as the fabric ones did too. The gunk just doesn't stick to the mesh like...
