Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I don’t have direct experience, but MH plus four T5’s on a 40 gallon…I would think you could have a potential heat problem without running a chiller. I defer to those who know to comment.
Junk, I’ve gone over some of the same bumps you're hitting as you travel down the road of life. Hang in there. Realize you have a second family here. You know that you can ask any questions here to help move the nut along in getting that tank up and running. Take a break from the tank for a few...
Welcome machct!
Most corals are in a symbiotic relationship with algae that helps in “feeding” the corals. So if you have corals, you need relatively strong lights…metal halide, T5s, compact fluorescents. If you have fish only, then you can get away with a simple fluorescent light fixture.
Well let me figure this out. I’m an oldtimer and we had formulas back in the day. If I remember correctly, that is one inch of fish for each gallon of water. So an eight foot fish (12in/ft x 8ft = 96 inches), would fit in a 96 gallon tank. I’ve got a 125 gallon…..I think I’ll buy this fish...
I know Im starting to sound like a salesman for the company, but I cant say enough about glass-holes.com. Its not HOB, so you do have to drill the back glass. However, their kits ($75 for 700gph and $95 for 1500gph) come with the drill bit. The price includes free shipping. As far as...
It is SPRING water...water that has passed through the ground picking up minerals. You would expect to find a relatively high tds reading because of all those good minerals.
If you are going to use you unit for drinking, tap off the RO unit only. You might also what to install a carbon filter...
Believe me, it was nothing.
Having been responsible for group buys for soccer referees and having 8000 dollars worth of equipment in my living room, dining room and kitchen, I know that the thanks first need to go to Federica Wohler for putting up with all this stuff all over the house and...
Home Depot and Lowe's sells saddle valves. Commonly used, not only for RO units, but for ice makers on refrigerators.
Just so we're clear, this is what I'm talking about:
If you use acrylic (or other plastic like polycarbonate), I would say that you want at least ¼ inch for the reasons you have pointed out. If you go with glass, you could get away with 1/8 inch, especially in a 55 that is only 12 inches wide (I think). By the way, glass is probably the cheaper...
Déjà vu chemistry lab class. That’s the black stuff covering most chemistry and biology lab benches. You do realize it does require oil rubs every so often to maintain that shiny surface.
Anyway, there’s a soapstone place up in Hackensack. I’m sure if you google soapstone and Hackensack, you’ll...
Just transferred from the 46g bowfront to the new 90g tank and moved the lights over. Lights were working fine on the 46. The lights are a retrofit IceCap 660 running four, 4 foot t-5’s. When we go to turn on the lights, they come on for a split second and then go off. What’s wrong?
Zoysia does just fine in NJ…if you want that look. It will overgrow almost anything…and yes, it dies back on the first frost, turning tan/brown. One word of caution, it is a broad leaf grass and weed killers, like weed-be-gone (sp?), will kill Zoysia as well.
Great meeting!
As usual, the food was plentiful and fantastic.
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wohler for opening up your home to a bunch of reefer geeks. The talk by Dr. Vagelli was also very interesting. I am willing and ready to volunteer to be his cabin boy on his next expedition to the Banggai...
After spending a week down in North Carolina, we finally finished up the plumbing on the back of the tank. Onefish usually updates this build, but he so wants to get this build up and running, he is in the process of filling the tank as I type. So here’s the finished plumbing on the back of the...
