Agree don't rush the cycle and just wait it out and everything will level out. When you rush and over stock a new tank it's playing catch-up game with the cycle.

My unit has two but if you have one I think it goes at the top to prevent the GFO from going up into the return line.

Agree with above I do believe your tank be too small for what your trying to do. Might want to see if you could go larger like a 10g tank. Not only will the 10g help with what your trying to do but also provide space so the kids can help put stuff in the tank. The 6.6g will be tight to get...
