I use them but I don't put them in my washer. I take the dirty one, rinse them briefly in the laundry room sink, then put them in an empty salt bucket with water and diluted bleach (yes bleach). Soak a few days. Rinse, air dry. Use again. Never had a problem.

not much to add - i have a 120 system plus custom richT (yeah i've been with the club that long) sump (40?). Like everyone else I started with 1/3 or so in the BR70 Octopus Bio Pellet Reactor. i use the TLF brand. Honestly I have no clue whether one is better than the other. Right now i can't...

Probably true...i had the same situation in terms of dealing with those things. The only reason it slowed down was after sandy wiped out most of my tank...including many of those snails. Sorry for the hijack. I can't stand those things.

i hate almost all the alk test kits on the market. The one I love the most is LaMotte and it is pricey. SO in a nutshell - either your testing is off, or your alk is off. If it's the former - consider getting a new kit. If the latter - there are a variety of items to consider -kalk reactor...

we used to have a member here that bred discus. They were really cool. The babies would eat the "mucus" off the mommy. Anyways - rockwork looks great. I remember my first try - it was like soooo ugly lol. Good luck with the build. looking forward to it.

+1. I have two of them - one for each of my tanks. Never had one get stuck, never had a tank run out of water - been on vacation many many times and always had peace of mind. Service is flawless if you ever have a problem or need help - Roger @Tunze in Austin TX is the man.

hahah haven't used one of these since early 90s when bleached coral and Underwater Gravel Filters were the rage. I think you can use them effectively as a reactor for reef tanks - but they tend to trap detritus and generate nitrate. Eheims are great but pricey. Good luck!

mike, as a member you could share more details if you want in the members only forum. Not saying you should or shouldn't- i respect your desire to keep it anonymous. The curious side of me is wondering which vendor. I'm glad they fixed the situation - and sorry you had to go thru this.
