I would venture a guess and say yes, the Angel could be eating your polyps. I had a Emperor Angel that loved zoo's. I tested it out once with a rock that had about 20 zoo's on it. They lasted about 2 minutes in the tank.

Once it gets covered in bacteria it should stop blowing around. I have about that much sand in my tank and did have problems with it blowing around for awhile, but it's settled now and I don't have any problems. I never siphon it, I have a nice clean up crew that takes care of it.

I couldn't imagine having to ship one of those, When I bought one some years ago it was put into one of those little plastic boxes they use for reptiles that has vents in the tops, it reached out of there and sliced through 4 bags! Nasty little things for sure!

I have heard that Moonlight LEDs can bleach SPS. I haven't noticed it in my tank though... Sooooo....No thoughts on ballast/lamp life with this idea?

Does that "glop" (I like that word!) come off the threads easily? Is it permanent?

FWIW my Favia is in a pretty shaded area of the tank with lower flow.

FWIW I use the teflon tape on my skimmer pump and return pump. I haven't had any leak issues with it. Just be sure to wrap the tape in such a way that when you thread it, it doesn't start to unravel. Good Luck!

Yeah, I agree I would just use the Teflon Tape.

I've never had to recharge a window unit. If it stopped blowing cold it was usually filter related... You would think there has to be a way recharge them though!
