Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
On a timer, they are in my bedroom so all night is not an option. Usually from about 5 pm to about 10 pm. I also use frozen water bottles as they can be re-frozen and re-used over and over.
I have used straight ice cubes, but if you use RO water for top off then straight iuce cubes aren't...
Phil,
last year we did a group buy for just phosphate remover, it wasn't through PA but rather a private vendor. I can't remember who it was though. maybe John will chime in as I think he helped put it together. It was sold in 5 pound lots IIRC.
Nope, no chiller for me. I don't have AC either. I use fans and run my lights in the evening when it is cooler during the summer.
This works for 99% of the days but when it don't I float ice bags in the tank to keep it cool.
CB are only more expensive when it comes to the price of the horses itself. While WC seahorses cost less to purchase they will cost you a lot more in the long run. With WC's you will need to factor in the cost of live foods and medications. It can cost upwards of a few hundred dollars a month to...
Jim I am glad you started this thread.
A 75 gallon would work fine for seahorses as would the LR gorgonians and caulerpa. Your basic clean up crew of snails will work just fine also. Shrimp are questionable as some seahorses will see them more as a snack then a neighbor. In a tank of this size...
What size are your drains? What is the head height from pump to the tank? These are things you need to take into account when choosing a return pump. You don't want a pump that is pulling more water than your drains can supply and your head height with reduce the flow of the pump.
I prefer a reverse lighting for the fuge. Run them when your tank lights are off, this allows the macro algaes a chance to "breathe" and release O2. The reverse lighting will also help you keep a more stable PH in the tank.
Nice pictures. Love the tail spot.
You are aware that catalina gobies are a cold water fish though, right? They usually don't last a year at reef temps, usually closer to 6 months.
Re: HUGE CRISIS W/ ABSOLUTELY FISH!
Distilled will be fine. Would it be possible to make a run to AO for RO water and get 10-15 gallons of it? You can store it in empty salt buckets or jugs, just put a small pump or airline in it to keep it aerated.
Re: HUGE CRISIS W/ ABSOLUTELY FISH!
I would take 1/2 gallon of water out and replace it with fresh water to lower your salinity. Do this every 2-3 days until you get down to an acceptable level 1.024 or so. Be sure to top the tank off every day with fresh water even if it is only a quart or so...
Re: HUGE CRISIS W/ ABSOLUTELY FISH!
2 gallons in a 20 gallon tank is over 10% of your water volume. That is a huge amount to top off in a small tank. It causes a huge sudden change in salinity.
