This hobby is as expensive as you want it to be. NikkiT ran tanks for years with a HOB filter and CF lights. No corals just fish and inverts and it was incredibly cheap. I have seen some amazing softie tanks setup the same way. If you want to go bigger, it is going to cost a lot more.
Fish and...
For flatworms, there is flatworm exit which you can nuke your tank with if you have them. Fresh water dips can stun them, then hit them with a powerhead/turkey baster just be carefull. Revive also does a pretty good job with knocking them off. Flatworms are not very strong and can be blown off...
Couple of updates....
The blue spot jawfish now has a sweet penthouse suite in our tank. He had a big one bedroom which he expanded into a two bedroom by burrowing under not one piece of live rock but two. Now he hangs out in the top of the live rock in caves. I am sure the fact that something...
Just some updates...
Bad news: lost helfrichis to ich big time :-[
Good news we threw in our pistol shrimp and yasha from the 20g because we did not want to separate them during the interceptor treatment. It is now paired with my dracula goby.
You can see their pistol shrimp in this pic:
The common thought is that red bugs lay eggs which is why you do the 3 week treatment. Interceptor apparently only kills the adults and not the eggs. I have seen the egg sacs on the corals so I am more inclined to go along with the common thoughts on them. We put our second treatment in last...
Looks like a good plan, just a note on the sexy shrimp they are really really small and might get lost even in an 8g tank. Peppermints might be a good solution as they are bigger but still small enough for an 8g tank.
Furan II is a anti bacterial medication for fresh fish (I think) that was first used for corals treating zoa pox. Right now it is the only cure for zoa pox out there and has been used successfully for treating zoas with bacterial problems. I had used it to dip some zoas succesfully and it had...
A few weeks ago we found out we had redbugs in our 20g tank and we needed to treat them. I figured I would do a quick write up of our experience and keep updating until the tank is clear.
Getting the gift that keeps on giving:
We lost power for two days during one of the heavy snowstorms which...
Do you have any other fish in the tank? Depending on what else you have in there/or want to put in there will depend if you can keep the helfrichi. It might be ok either alone or with a small goby.
We had a CBS snip a cleaner goby in half and then eat him in front of us. That was a fun one to watch. If the goby is a bigger one I don't think you will have a problem, the cleaner goby was very small.
