Thanks Brian and Deb - Nov. Meeting

Brian and Deb, Thank you very much for having us in your home. It was Nikki's first meeting and she had a great time as did I. She also used the newbie luck to win a frag so we did pretty well. It was good seeing you all, it was a lot of fun.

To dose or not to dose

My method is Brightwell Elemental with Brightwell Alk 8.3 and dose those. Not set it and forget it, but maybe 10 mins of work every other day.

To dose or not to dose

Before you begin to dose you have to figure out what your starting point is. Test calcium, magnesium, PH, and alk and see where your levels are. If your levels are good then you don't have to dose them, if they are low then time to begin dosing. SPS like better water quality and require higher...

    Arvind's 180g Chronicle

+1 on the rockwork, the whole tank look really clean. I like the blue background too, seems to brighten the tank up, is it vinyl or paint? Well done.

    Biocube - adding fish

Youpey wrote a great piece on clownfish so here you go: http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=20953.msg187888#msg187888 On my nano, I prefer to do a weekly 10% water change. That should help you keep your levels in check. You could probably get away with...

    Stir things up

Come on and stir it up; ..., little darlin'! Stir it up; come on, baby! Come on and stir it up, yeah! Little darlin', stir it up! O-oh! On a more serious note, turkey basters are awesome at clearing up the rocks and sand bed. We do this every now and again, also helps keep the bad algae away.

    took the plunge

I have an mp10 in our 30g and we have the mp20 sitting in a box waiting to setup our new tank. I love the vortech pump, that is why we now have two. It is so customizable and easy to use that I don't think I could every buy another pump. The footprint inside the tank is so small which is nice.

my damsel is going after all my fish

You can always try and give him back to a fish store, they are not a fish that mellows with age and will continue this behavior if you leave him in. We normally try to catch fish when they are eating, if you can't pull everything out and just grab him. Might be a pain in the rear, but you don't...

    My crabs hate me

Have you tried little plastic army guys? Setup a perimeter with some barbed wire and let them guard the corals. I tried a timeout corner with a little stool and dunce cap, but he simply ate the dunce cap.

$1,500 for one eye of a chalice

I got six heads of Captain America Palys that go for $90 a piece from Tyree and you have to wait for $200. I have just found it amazing that prices on almost all new corals/fish come down over time but not on the chalices. I even saw a poor mans my miami chalice frag on another site for like...

JBJ 28 Nano vs. Oceanic BioCube 29 ???

I have a JBJ 12 gallon tank and love it. JBJ is not a small company and makes quality products. Just be careful with that sized nano they seem to have an issue where they crack along the curved glass. Do a quick search and decide if you are still interested.

    14g Biocube questions

If the tank really hasn't been setup that long, you should not have any problem taking them out. It is always good to do anything in your tank slowly anyway. PC bulbs are just the bulbs you have, I think running the fan when bulbs are on is always a good idea, will lengthen the life of your...
