    40 Breeder Reef Plan

Good Luck with the tank, I have heard 40 breeders are great tanks. Also have to commend you for having a plan before you start, always easier that way. A few comments: Lighting: That will be fine, how far off the tank are you going to hang it? Filtration: Don't know anything about that protein...

do you think i should get a real crab

Unless you have a bad case of bubble algae I would not recommend the emerald crab. I have had nothing but problems with them and I have also read of other people on here having big problems. It would be a shame to add one when it really won't solve any problems for you and might create some.

    Our 57 gallon Oceanic Illuminata

Thanks Rod. We will all have to get together at some point and I am always up for a beer. I am sure you were not the only one trying to steal that tank from us. It is even more impressive in person.

    Her 20 (pics)

We recently bought a piece of live rock because it had some feather dusters on it and put it in the 20g. That night when the actinics went on we saw Christmas tree worms sticking out on the other side. We have since put them up top to see them better. Pic: Wanted to show some of the growth...

What does everyone think about a Potters angel in a 29 bowfront?

We mainly feed rods reef and PE mysis to our angels. We will toss in a nori sheet every now and again because they do like some greens. We had a pygmy for a while and they are great fish (got sucked into a powerhead after getting stung my an anem, we were pissed). The tricky thing with angels...

    Rod's Food

It lasts a while in the freezer. Since we only have nanos we don't go through a lot and packs last us a few months (expect when I leave it out on the counter overnight).

What does everyone think about a Potters angel in a 29 bowfront?

You might want to pick another angel or you are going to have to wait awhile to get a potters angel. Just from some quick reading (I have never kept one) they are considered expert only and need a well established system to graze on. Tank size recommendations range from 30 to 75 gallons. If you...

    Coral Beauty is not eating

I agree with Phyl with the nori clip, our angles eat that. We had a coral beauty for a while and fed it Rods Food and mysis. It just might not be weened onto frozen food yet and you might have to try some live food (again in agreement with Phyl). If the fish is swimming and active and picking at...

They are all doing great, opening right on up. Did the other two frags you have survive?

best way to get rid of hair algae

If you can remove the frag plugs and rock, pull them out and scrub them with a toothbrush in a container of water. This will cover the symptom but will not cure your problems. Hair algae will stick around if you have high levels of nitrates and/or phosphates. Old PC bulbs shift to a redder...

    Flame Hawkfish

They might also get an appetite for small gobies as well. We have a long nosed hawk right now that sometimes bothers our shrimp but the shrimp are all bigger than him. I hope he doesn't get too big.

Our 30 Gallon Cube (pics included)

The only thing I have seen him nip at is the gorgonian. I don't know if he is nipping at algae on a bare spot or the actual gorgonian polyps. The flame does not bother anything else, but we really don't have any fleshy LPS (besides frogspawn) or clams. He has left our zoas alone and they are all...

    Her 20 (pics)

Unfortunately this will probably be one of the last updates we do on this tank as it will be broken down into our 57 gallon when we set it up in about a month. The 20g will not go down without a fight though and we have some new updates. We started with a "tester" acan frag I bought off of a...

Our 30 Gallon Cube (pics included)

So we picked up some new stuff for the 30g. First, we needed to replace the picasso clown that got sucked into a powerhead. We did not want to leave the other one alone for too long out of the fear of it getting to aggressive. When we picked up the new tank at AO they had one left and he...

They went with the megaflow, it does not look huge to me but then again this is my first drilled tank with an overflow.

    any LED Brainiacs here?

Here is a new site that has gained a lot of attention out at reefaplooza in California. Don't know anything about them personally, but they look pretty cool. http://dev.ecoxotic.com/

    Our 57 gallon Oceanic Illuminata

So we picked up our new tank today form AO from their tank promo. It has a center overflow and is drilled with 3/4 inch and 1 inch bulkheads. The stand is pretty cool and has doors on three sides so you can access it from any side. We are breaking down the 20 gallon tank and everything will go...
