Had a 10k bulb, and went right to the 14k pheonix. A lot of people on this forum recommended them, so I picked one up and I am verry happy with it.
Found my old thread were I did a comparison with pictures. Hope this helps...
If you are going 250w and want a good 14k bulb get the Pheonix 14k. Love that bulb and they make it in double end and single end (I know this because I accidently bought the se bulb and it sits in its box at home).
A lot of people use it to simulate dawn and dusk patterns to give more natural lighting to the reef. Others use it because of the color pop it gives to corals. The old logic was that 10k and whiter bulbs were for growth and 20k or bluer bulbs were for looks. While this still holds mostly true, I...
They were sued over trademark infringement and went out of business. They were also super expensive and had problems breaking down. People are selling them on ebay for like a quarter of what their retail price. You just have to find someone or company that can get replacement parts when/if they go.
What size tank do you have and what fish? They basically will clean your fish to such a degree they can cause fish to jump out of your tank or stress. They also don't really do well in captivity. There have been studies that show when removed from a reef, the health of the reef crashes. Don't...
I have the pheonix 14k bulb in my 30 g and like it a lot. Granted I have a 250 watt pendant, but I am sure the colors are the similiar. I would keep the 14k and if you wanted to supplement, add bulbs.
That was the big joke with me and my wife that one day officers were going to break down our door because they thought we had a grow operation. Our tanks are in the same room so you get the glow of the MH and T5 setup. We had people coming in and out trading frags and fish so you kept seeing...
Cleanup crew is a mix of snails and hermits. Nassarius, cerith and astrea snails and blue legged hermits. We just add as we go along. We know we are going to lose some, so we just look and see what we need.
Look around for some used fixtures on the For Sale thread. You can go ahead with the PC lighting I just wanted to let you know that you will be limited in your coral selection.
I think you are making the right decision to return the two bulb system, it would not be enough light for what you wanted to do. The new system would be enough light for softies and zoas, but not for an anem. Also, most people in the hobby are getting away from the power compact lights. They are...
Thank you guys for all the responses and the offers. We are still over a month away from setting up the tank, just doing research. The tank will have no canopy or hood. The new currents say they have individual reflectors but I was told it is just one big one kind of folded around the bulb. I...
Well we are back home in rainy cold NJ. The tanks look fine, just a lot of algae growth. The mp10 got switched to a different mode so it did some aquascaping of its own with the live sand. We may have lost a fish, not sure yet but everything else is fine and no floods. Tanks got a little cold...
