Mark, I’m curious about your ATO. What electrical components of the ATO are in your sump? I would think it is just a float switch. Whose ATO are you using? Most float switches we use have a low voltage DC current that goes to a relay switch (Although AC120 volt float switches are available...

My guess is a small volume of alk??? Water on its own has no buffering capability and therefore the pH will be dictated by whatever buffers you add. I would think a few drops of alk (or a pinch of baking soda), would do it.

I would first check to see that the glass was not tempered….easy to do using THIS simple test. I used a pair of polarized sunglasses and a netbook computer. Once you verify non-tempered glass, drill away. As far as the old holes, leave the bulkheads there and put in plugs….either threaded...
