Well I did something really dump. Instead of taking two of the clowns I had down in the sump, I decided to put a good sized mean-ass maroon clown in the tank. Everything was fine at first….the maroon saw the other clowns…no problem. The maroon then spied the RBTA, and that was the beginning of...
First I have to say that it appears that my algae eaters attack the plain Seoul Dry Algae when compared to the LFS algae, which they more or less just pick at. All five fish are vying for a bite into the algae…a fish frenzy.
I actually took the shriveled up piece of garlic-painted algae and cut...
Well, back to the drawing board. Went to paint the algae and it curled up. Here’s a shot of the algae ready for painting, and the second, after the algae was painted. They devour the plain algae, so I guess I just stick with that.
If the RBTA isn’t one of these massive ones, feed the anemone and it will close up while it feeds, kicking out the clown.
I just had to catch a maroon clown about two weeks ago, and what a pain. It wasn’t in the anemone, but I eventually had to take out half the rock on one side of the tank and...
It’s been too many years since chemistry classes, but if I remember correctly we always add the solute (in this case salt) to the solvent (in this case water). I’m just not sure if it is an actual written lab procedure…but it is the way we would always do it. I would guess that part of the...
UPDATE: As the Cream of Garlic cooled, it turned into cement. So I added about ½ cup of RO and 4 capsules, 300 mg each of fish oil (note, pure fish oil without lemon). Brought this back to a boil and continued filtering.
Yes, and cracking the manual (I have both a RK2 and a RK-lite), it appears to be slightly different to the RK2...it doesn't have a "C" option. But again, I want to empasize that it is not "wavemaker," it is actually "CurrentChanger."
Rod and I went on a road trip today and made a few stops. One of the places was the Hong Kong Supermarket on Route 18 in East Brunswick. We were there to buy algae. First off, not speaking the language made the search a little tougher. We first ended up in the “regular” algae isle and just...
I will agree that a lot of the info on garlic is anecdotal, but so was chicken soup for the common cold until they finally did studies to prove some efficacy. The only thing that I have found that is backed with research is the antibacterial effect of garlic and the appetite enhancing effect...
Well here’s my opinion after a day of playing. I set all three up using the A, B, C functions on the RK2. Using all three letters, it runs A and C while B is off, then B only while A and C are off. Powerheads A and B are on the left side of the tank, while C is on the right. For the sake of...
It is too new to tell, but the one 1400 that I’ve had for a couple of weeks has always started in the right direction. I shut them off when I feed. Now, one of the older K-4’s almost always starts backwards, and I have to un-plug and plug back in until it is going in the right direction.
There are other reasons to purchase these new models over the old ones. They have a smaller profile, with the 1400's, pump a little more over the older K4's, and here's the big one for me, wanting to be as "green" as possible; they use less than half the power.
So I just got back from Will's...
I have a Reefkeeper 2 and the NEW Koralia Evolution 1400 powerheads. Should I bother using the wavemaker function on the RK2? Does it offer a benefit to the tank? And by the way, it is a 90 gallon tank, five feet long.
If yes, what program would you recommend?
I found this recipe over on Aquariacentral:
I use 100% organic garlic powder. I put 1/2 cup in one cup of RO water and microwave 1 minute to boiling in a glass. I let it sit until it cools. I pour the mixture into a coffee filter and squeeze the liquid out into a jar with a good lid...
Ahhhh! The good old days! Now I have this noose around my neck if the form of a 90 reef tank..
Hey, how did I get sucked into this conversation? Rod, if you don’t apologize to my guppies, I’m coming over with a couple hundred of them to put in with your discus. They are so upset they’ve started...
