Blood letting, sacrifices, burning crosses…..Oh wait, that’s my other meeting.
This one, you look at some gigantic tank…say oooh…eat some food…talk to some people about what reactors they are running….look at the big tank again…say ooooh again….talk to other people about their next gigundo...
The big difference is the PAR value…the amount of light you get from these bulbs. According to the info above, the UVL Aquablue bulb puts out 254 PAR, while the ATI Aquablue puts out 324. Big difference.
The above recommendation for the four bulb setup was to first use ATI bulbs because of...
I too considered a grounding probe after sticking my VOM in the tank and finding a few volts of stray juice buzzing about.
However, heres my understanding (and boy am I ignorant): Stray voltage without a ground produces no current. Current is what kills. Its like a bird standing on an...
To simply answer your question; yes, there are some snails (Trochus and Astraea are two that come to mind), that eat diatoms. I know some crabs do as well, but not sure about hermits though.
The other things to consider, if the tank has just finished its cycle, and there are no corals in the...
My understanding is that the dogface has that beak, and it continues to grow, like our fingernails. It needs to munch down on hard stuff to wear it down. I know snails are on its menu. Not sure about crabs. I also think they are not reef safe because they find that delectable.
Current setup does not have a siphon break or check valve for the return line coming from the sump. When power is killed, it results in maybe 5 – 6 gallons siphoned from the display into the sump. With the next build…a bigger display…I want to install a siphon break, check valve or something, to...
Nothing weird here. Typical cycle. First the ammonia bacteria move in and start to metabolize the ammonia to nitrite. Than the nitrite bacteria move in and convert the nitrite to nitrate. And eventually ammonia and nitrate drop to zero and you have a cycled tank.
Rich, I'm sure the Senate is currently working on a stimulus package just for you, as we speak. Please expect a 50 million dollar private jet (on the taxpayers dime) to take you to your ski destination, as well as a multimillion dollar bonus (on the taxpayers dime) for doing squat. Please...
I’m starting the build on a new tank that will run six t5 bulbs with two IceCap ballasts. The 660 will run four bulbs, while the 430 will run two bulbs. A current post prompted this query because it stated that ATI bulbs had higher PAR values. One point not discussed in that post was the type of...
Re: ASM skimmer for 180 Gallon Reef ?
Daniel, Im confused and that is very easy to do.
You currently have an MR-2 .rated at 300 gallons a skimmer I consider a Cadillac of skimmers and you want to go to an ASM? Im definitely confused. You have a very good skimmer now. The MR-2 allows the...
The simple answer is yes! But you are not showing how you are going to “feed” the refugium. You will need to either pump water from the sump to the fug or allow water from the display to feed the fug. The outflow pipe flow volume (diameter related), must be greater than the inflow volume.
Hey, Im a newbie and ask this question out of ignorance. Why not include actinics? Im currently running actinics (UVLs), and they make things pop. Would this suggested combo of ATIs Blue Plus and Aquablue Special cause the corals to POP? I certainly like the improved PAR!
By the way...
I can only guess that no one has tried or uses a Glass-Holes overflow. Well, I’ve just ordered the 1500 gph overflow for the 87 gallon build that I’m about to start. I guess I’ll include my experiences in the Tale of The Tank thread that will be eventually started. I’m impressed by the attitude...
Getting ready to start the next build - 87 gallon custom tank, 5 feet long. It is not reef-ready so the first thing we are going to do is drill and install an overflow. I’ve been looking at Glass-Holes overflow. Does anyone have experience with these overflows? They are very reasonable. However...
Jabis, not knowing what system you have, I’ll make some assumptions. A tank with live rock and reduced feeding (stop or reducing the feeding of fish), can go quite some time without the sump. If this is the case, do your thing…reset the baffles…and get-r-done!
Some of the minerals included in your salt are slow dissolvers. The powerhead provides the circulation to assist in dissolving these minerals. You can also throw in a heater so that the water is at the proper temp when you add it to your tank, as well as when you test it, since temp affects the...
Welcome Chuck. A FOWLR that has been running for three years…and you just picked it up. So it is a “moved” tank….but new for you.
What is your water source? Tap or RO or RODI?
I can only guess that you have either hair algae or cyan bacteria. I’m an expert on both…getting them, that is. My...
Steve….top notch…thanks so much for opening up your home. I’m sure your wife didn’t even notice there were more than 25 people otherwise I think this might cost you a little bling-bling.
Great meeting and, as others have stated, the tanks looked fantastic…packed with great looking stuff...
