    help ,.........algea out break

Not sure what you mean by “daylight” bulbs, but generally speaking, the lower the K, the faster stuff will grow, including hair algae. What kind of CUC do you have. I believe Turbos eat hair algae, to an extend.

painting back of tank VS. plastic background

My daughter got them while at RIT…she’s an artist….so I’m going to say an arts and crafts store. This is the same stuff a lot of political signs are made of. I think it’s called corrugated plastic poster board or sign board. You’re painting the back-side of polished glass…that is, looking at...

    skimmer question

Need more details. What brand? In sump or free standing? When you say overflowing…is that with relatively clean water or is it the wort that is typical to a skimmer? My guess is that it needs adjustment. Read the instructions that came with it. That will explain the adjustments that can be made...

painting back of tank VS. plastic background

I’ve done two tanks….both using spray paint. In one case I painted the glass directly. Very easy to do. Just tape off what you don’t want covered with paint, and spray. Do multiple coats, letting it dry between coats. It really doesn’t matter what brand because the paint isn’t going to be...

    Mixing salt water

Here are pictures of my paint mixers. I’m assuming Jim’s are similar. I wouldn’t be concerned about the use of metal since the exposure time would be minimal. In addition, the two on the right are stainless steel while the one on the left is ferrous metal covered with a Teflon type coating...

    Who is bringing what

Well Rafal, I too am relatively new as well.  I’m not sure what “real” beer drinkers drink, but I will tell you from my observations that real NJReefers drink Yuengling Lager (with the exception of the photo people who drink some other bottled concoction.)

    Stainless steel commercial meat slicer

Whoever gets this thing has to have a meeting at their house where they are serving custom sub sandwiches.  That would be great.  I’ll have provolone, ham and salami with everything on it, including hot peppers. The more I think of this, the club should buy this and it should got to whomever is...

    Who is bringing what

You need to bring a frag for everyone at the meeting as well as six cases of Yuengling Lager. Only kidding….except for the Yuengling…you can drop that off at my house. Actually bring yourself (and some food or drink item), and however many bucks you want to spend on buying tickets for the raffle.

Adam's new 215gal Oceanic in wall!!

Install a durso standpipe in your overflow. Here’s a link for a conventional durso: http://www.dursostandpipes.com/?page_id=58 Easy to built with a couple fittings from Home Depot. If you are limited with space, you can modify the top and put in another type of durso (that I can’t find the...

    Who is bringing what

But Mike, you just said it in the above post…if I stay a newbie, I still win.  So, I’m still a newbie…just like I’m still 18 years old…it’s just this damn body that is aging. And Mike, you have to admit, I still don't know what I'm talking about.

    rons 70 gal upgrade

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but if there is room in the overflow, put in a durso. That should eliminate the "toilet bowl flush" you are hearing.

You can't run a tank that way!

UNBELIEVABLE! As a newbie everyone’s been pushing all this high-priced stuff…this reactor, that reactor, this light unit, that sump/refugium, now a controller and a chiller and $$$$$$$$$. And to think I could have gone with the undergravel filter I have in the shed (from the 70’s), a few...

    Instant Ocean.

To quote Yogi, “Déjà vu all over again.” Didn’t IO have a problem about a year ago? Two people with the same issue…I’m assuming recently purchased salt. ???

    nudibranch

I think you are talking about a stomatella here...if so, they are good.

can anyone help me identify these eggs?

I definitely would say snails…and my guess is Stomatella because of the patterning. Now the only question, do you have Stomatella snails in your tank?

    Plexiglass or egg crate?

I am very suspect of ANY plastics material that comes out of China. Having worked on a joint venture in China, I could not get “clean” plastic material from them. Otherwise, if buying cutting board material, just make sure it does not include antimicrobials. Some plastics in the food industry...
