I'll let someone else chime in on lowering alkalinity, I was having difficulty raising mine and after chasing it with chemicals for sometime I recently did a 50% water change to get my parameters back in check.
I agree with Dave, also you want to bring the alkalinity down to 125-200 ppm. It's very possible when you switched over tanks the detritus in the sand was released creating the ammonia and nitrate spike.
This is a pic I just took, critique it, not the subject but what I could have done to make it a better pic of the subject. Keep in mind I'm limited to a Sony Cybershot 7.2 camera.
Hey Mark, if they are coming to you and then opening for a few days they are healthy when your get them. I'm really not familiar with your tank, can you please list your tank size, lighting, flow, skimmer and then your water parameters. I would think that would give us a better idea of how to...
Funny you should mention that, I went up there to check out the waves to go surfing but after watching these two guys being swept down the beach for a half hour without being able to punch through to the line up I figured I'd wait til tomorrow.
Yea just got back from the beach 8) scary part is there's no beach :o and high tide isn't til 3 or 4 this afternoon, waves are lapping against the dunes now, hopefully the wind switches soon...
Great pics Brian, it's actually not the pollution but atmospheric conditions creating the red sky, combination of falling barometer, cold front to the north, low pressure to the south east ;)
Here we go the debate ;) For those of you not doing water changes, try doing 10% to 15% water changes weekly over a 6 week time period and then report your findings. Take pictures, lets see if there's any changes, better growth, etc.. I think it would be a fun experiment :D
I have great polyp extension on all my corals since bumping up the flow, added a Seio 1500 to my 2 tunze 6060s. I guess I'm a little concerned that I bumped it up too much as this started to take place after adding the extra powerhead and my concern is it's ripping the skin right off these...
