Added some Purigen last week and numbers are trending down on Nitrate. Today was second dose of IO Nitrate Reducer as well. Nitrate - 15/20 Alk - 9.1 Calc - 400 Went back to manual dosing. Also, used turkey baster to stir up the sand bed this morning. Have to say the diatoms blew off easily so...

The stupid in me is coming out now. If you have diatom issues with sand won't you still have the same problem bare bottom? Will the diatoms be more free floating and be picked up filter and skimmer or will it adhere to the bottom glass?

Well, it might be she doesn't want to smell it. When I make my hot BBQ sauce with Carolina reaper peppers I have to use the crock pot outside. The smell from the peppers just kill her.
