Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
LOL. Guys we do have a tank that is supported by NJRC located at Adventure Aquarium and partnered with the NJ Academy for Aquatic Science. That would be the logical destination in my head if we part it - but it would also require some signficant coordination and also even a question to NJAAS...
not sure i understand the post mike - are you saying you are looking for a school/organization to donate to or that this set up is at a school already?
best thing i ever did was buy that python/aqueon thing that connects to my laundry room faucet. no more bucket brigade. I shut down the pumps/return and turn it on. This allows me some time to mess around with the sandbed to kick up some detritus and scrape whatever annoying algae is growing...
nope. When I arrived and settled into the hotel, after making dinner plans I realized I had about 2 hrs of free time. So I could either sit in the hotel/relax watch espn/hbo or something - or go out. I decided on going out.
I just searched for the Austin Reef Club and then checked their vendor...
I don't think there is one in austin.
I did walk by a bar called the aquarium on 6th street, but all it had was a huge 300~500 gallon tank in the back.
i also walked down "sixth street" which is apparently some kind of bar/tourist trap. It was dead though being a tuesday night. Not everyday though you see mechanical bulls being riden right by the front display. I guess they probably have that in Manhattan somewhere but it was prominent - so...
after river city - i went to aqua trek
Rather small signage outside - but the gps found it
The place is a tunze retailer so right away i noticed those products in use on display:
i kinda liked the pvc area:
Lots of space/tanks:
This beauty caught my eye in one of the nano displays...
I only had a brief two days in Austin to meet with a vendor, and met up with some family. But the pics below are almost all of the two LFS I briefly stopped in. I decided against fighting the TSA in terms of buying anything live.
First place: drop off my osmolator. TSA in Newark looked at my...
Hmm i've been there - but back before the hand-over. So i wasn't expecting it to be the same now that it's 2011. What is that - almost 20 years ago last I went.
Well in that part of the globe, live seafood is considered to be above all the most important (store like Red Lobster would go out of...
Unless they carpet surfed, more than likely they were consumed by your cleanup crew - whatever that may be prior to FW war I and FW war II. You'd be surprised how quickly shrimp and that serpent star of yours, plus hermits, nassarius snails, bristle worms can consume a fish.
There are quite a...
oh and what you are describing is not algae. Anyone that uses Reef Crystals probably has the same experience (i know i do) and the mixing of that with RODI (0 tds) results in some organics that create a biofilm on the container and the cord and pump in the water. the LONGER your stuff is...
if you get a USED rodi unit - try and borrow or get your hands on a tds meter. I have no idea where mine is otherwise I'd offer it. The unit may be cheap but you may have to purchase additional new filters.
interesting cardinal fish! can you share where you obtained them from? just would like to see if there are others/stock/cost etc. if you can't post feel free to pm.
or just wait for your current one to get older. Or roll the dice and try it. When you realize they are not pairing up - then time to get the fish trap. At least you enjoyed having two clowns. Lots of options. =)
I love the aquascape.
I am suspicious to the brittle star though - ever have any fish missing? Google Ophiarachna incrassata it's one of the few known serpent stars that potentially eat live fish.
marc levinson has a website that pretty much covers the entire gamut of sumps.

I've copied/pasted below what he wrote:
Increased total water volume - This dilutes your water of accumulating pollutants, and helps avoid issues that occur quickly in...
I'm not sure. When my male carpet surfed last year i picked up a small "juvi" from AqOb. The female did not kill it outright so I knew it hadn't "changed" yet. I would imagine if the newcomer was female and i released it, my female would have bitten it in half.
Of course I have established...
