Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
This what they look like every morning - sorry for the fuzzy pic - phD camera and all and i was rushing out the door:
Anyways - in preparation of moving these clowns to the bc29 for grow-out and also because I want the 10g for the next batch, I've started prepping the bc29.
DJ Panel:
It was...
So - note to everyone - 90 day old clownfish are not welcome by their mommy. ;)
Here you see a pair of 90 day old clowns in a specimen container. I thought - they were too big to fit thru the small holes ( you can see one on the upper right). But of course both slipped out one night after...
I know it's weird - but I've used this company to get my dj/ panels for power. I've gotten 5 of them from them with no issues. Sometimes I even get a coupon code.
Price check: Amazon is $40 for 8 panel switch with free shipping.
DJ now is $24 plus $14.85 shipping = $39
Of course I needed two...
an alternative suggestion - go with brian at tba -
http://www.tbaquatics.com/shop/double-chamber-media-reactor-for-remphos-or-bac-310.html
we also get a member discount. Heck I might need one of these myself.
i've got some SPS that I picked up from napoli's tank that has been going great - i'd hate to see it suffer if i shut the lights too long - but that is definitely a step I will take.
on the mag - lets just say i've used 2 gallons already. I am using another technique of dosing the mag directly...
And that's the rub. While we all profess to support the environment, we also are conscientious of the cost to this hobby. Wild mandarins run for what -$20, $30? I wonder what the price-point would be for ppl to buy captive raised -$50? $75?
Also how does one distinguish between the two other...
i freely admit i am horrible about changing out the media. I believe carbon should be changed out every month - phosban can be extended longer. Don't ask me - my corals probably are begging for another owner! lol. The clowns seem to like it despite my efforts...hahah.
oops - just realized this...
ouch on the finger - looks great otherwise!!!
As a stop-gap - couldn't you place a sponge/filter floss to reduce the amount of bubbles/splash? I agree the noise is a little distracting -even after cutting it shorter.
btw - andrew is quoted earlier in 12/2009 on this same subject:

I guess the nytimes just added a few quotes and claimed it as their own.
This statement puzzles me:
For example, Dr. Rhyne said, peppermint shrimp, of the genus Lysmata, are not as showy as some other shrimp species, but since they control a pest anemone in tanks, their harvested numbers have increased twentyfold in Florida since 1994. “There’s just a huge demand,”...
I am still at approximately 30 percs left in this 3rd batch. I've had a few die on me - and I think it's from the lack of nutrition. I ordered some reed mariculture otohime to see if that will change things.
I also added the sponge filter I bought from the PA group buy. Once this seeds...
Nothing new - unless you want to know that i am still battling bryopsis. I've fallen completely off pace with water changes. Focus has been all on the baby clownfish and their water changes.
The only thing interesting is that the clowns have started laying eggs again. This last batch was laid...
Sir Dave would have been a fantastic choice. But Mike might would certainly have been fantastic also. Afterall he basically brings in all the ratings for his dirty jobs show for Discovery. Ever hear him narrate deadliest catch? pretty good!
thanks - you are right - i was blind and didn't see the link!

I was just caught off guard since when I was changing out the filters - both were "blue" and the new pack had a "blue...
