spray paint here as well. I followed MikeNapoli's lead HERE:
To me either one works but I dislike the salt creep with the plastic.
At the end of the day the entire back is going to be covered in coralline algae...or if you frag zoas/xenia.
According to fatheree (citing barry at clams direct.com)- pinch mantle is due to a protozoan in the tank. It can be eliminated via a 30 min RO dip - but making sure the ph and temp are as close to display as possible.
I loved your tank with all those clams - it's a real bummer you lost them...
sorry to hear that...i forget if i asked you this question already but what color is the brittle star? green ones are notorious for taking down healthy fish.
think of it the other way also...besides not having enough heat - you could cook a tank.
One single heater getting stuck could be bad for a tank.
Two heaters (at half the wattage) have a lesser chance of BOTH getting stuck - and if one does get stuck - it cannot do as much damage.
personally...
totally understand. In this hobby it's far better to get multiple opinions. I must say the book on clams is excellent and it wasn't his own analysis - he cited several sources. Anyways - get the book and read it. It's a compelling argument.
The clam (looking at it again) looks perched on that...
Sandee...you bought PC lights.
While they are cheaper fixtures (than T5 and/or MH) - they require bulb changes more frequently - especially if you keep them on 12 hrs a day (aka normal use). I believe folks change out PC bulbs every 6 months.
PC's aren't bad - they are a little bit of an older...
a word of caution on adding the anemone - there is always the possibility of the critter moving to one of your intakes (the hob filter, or one of the 2 hydors). In a 29 gallon tank - one false step and you've got shredded anemone.
great looking tank...the corals are looking very nice. I like the maxima also...keep in mind according to the latest analysis per Fatherree - there is a lot of evidence that shows that tridacnid clams do NOT require supplemental feeding of phyto. DT's is great - I use it to boost the copepod...
do you have sand in this tank and if so - please list the clean up crew.
It wouldn't hurt to siphon out the cyano.
I agree with all the previous posts - without knowing your tank equipment - it's a sure bet you don't have enough flow.
Shrimp are just ornamental (opportunistic) cute critters for the tank. They should not be sold as part of a clean up crew. They basically need to be fed just like your fish. If you do not keep them happily fed they will gladly plunge their claws into coral polyps and pull food out. It's...
Jabis - unfortunately for sale threads belong elsewhere.
If you want me to move the thread - pm me.
Otherwise I ask everyone to refrain from buying/selling in this thread/forum.
The good news is it survived the night. It is a Mourning Dove. After placing it last night in the box, I dare not open it again for fear of further stressing it. I was scared it was dead but it cooed last night and make some bird sounds. This morning, prior to work I took the box and drove it to...
he's got a nice 8 bulb T5 fixture in a 90 gallon...I can tell from the pic.
;)
just kidding...i read it in his tale of the tank.
Croceas (in the wild that is) are rarely found on the sandbed. If you're going to put in on the sandbed, do it a favor to feel secure and place a small flat piece...
welcome frank!
discus are amazing fish...I actually knew a couple buddies of mine in NY that bred them (it was the most humid basement ever...lol) and sold the babies to lfs. Anyways - I didn't have a tank for a good year on this board but it was fun to hang around and read other tanks/look at...
Durso standpipes are named after Richard Durso's design (AGA/Aqueon copies it in those mega flow kits).

I went the DIY method (lowes/HD) - I honestly was so intimidated by it but everyone here was so encouraging and it worked! i didn't even have to...
Agree with a good book - much better than my advice! ;)
A bunch of great books listed in my tale of the tank here
Get an RODI if you haven't already. Huge difference in my opinion on whether you battle algae or not.
Start a tank thread here. ;D This way we can help keep surprises at bay...
