On the skimmer... Is your skimmer getting the display water directly? what is the rating on the skimmer versus the rating on your return pump? If the return pump is faster than the skimmer you are returning water to the display before it has a chance to be skimmed. Basically you'd be recycling...

lol how many skimmers do you have/want? Octo, kent, mr2 and maybe a marineland... ;D Anyways - I would consider a AquaC urchin as not a bad choice. Personally I used an Aqua C ev120 - but those are pretty finicky/sensitive.

i don't think the night light is keeping them awake...but it may be that they do not have a "spot" to stay in yet if the damsels have taken up residence already. If you are concerned about it - you could try 1) rearrange all the rocks so everyone doesn't have a home and has to start over 2)...

By definition a refugium is geared for pod production. A DSB doesn't enhance pod production in my opinion. At least, not as much as say a bunch of LR rubble in the same volume. A deep sand bed in refugiums has come along lately and is kindof a hybrid of what the sump/refugium was supposed to be...

you're pretty far from the swap - but you're really close to macna next year! ;D i completely agree with jrwohler on swapping a filter out for a skimmer. I'd also suggest adding a pair of powerheads on each side for additional water movement for the coral. I also noticed you have zero snails...

WELCOME TO NJRC! Some people don't get home from work until later in the evening and would like to see their display tanks lit up for a bit. In those situations you may start your lights "on" later in the day.
