what kind of lighting and size of tank?
stronger lighting will be needed for maximas/croceas. However weaker lighting may work with deresa/squamosa/gigas but those tend to grow very big.
I also agree with wendy - CB's are hit and miss around LPS or clams.
one thing to be careful of - while BTA's do not generally walk around - they should not be in touch with your heater. If the heater came on one night and it just so happened it was sitting on it - it could badly burn it.
Oh and they also don't mind getting something to eat every once in a while.
i would not have suggested an anemone just yet - how old is the tank? The age of the tank tends to help stabilize the chemistry of the water - that's why people tend to suggest waiting on an anemone.
The other concern is I think you have PC lighting right? It might work but most folks would...
Unfortunately seaclone fits the bill of lousy skimmer.
You really cannot compare water changes to skimming.
Water changes serve two distinct purposes - diluting the poop that is in your tank - AND adding back the necessary elements/additives that are being absorbed by the corals.
Regardless...
Question - I understand the full-rate for those who want to attend all 3 days.
Will there be a different charge for folks who just want to visit for say Saturday? Basically part-time attendees?
Also is there a kids rate? Specifically, is the price less for kids under 16? Or is the price...
jason -
A quality skimmer is recommended. Getting a lousy skimmer does nothing for a reef tank.
If you are confident in your husbandry skills (low bioload, commitment to water changes) then by all means go without a skimmer.
If on the other hand you plan on maintaining sensitive corals and...
Is it possible there was a hole in the bag and when the cleaning crew came thru they accidentally spilled some into the bag?
If it was purposeful - man that really is terrible.
sorry to hear about this.
great point bill. which is a reason steve to go and look up all the 180 tale of the tanks...I'm sure bill already mentioned his return pump somewhere in there.
in terms of return pumps for a 180 - you just need to figure out how much flow your dual overflows can handle and then identify where you will situate the pump.
For example, an AGA typically handles 600 gph per overflow with no "head". As you have dual overflows - you'll need to find a pump...
the electricians in the club can speak up but I think getting a titanium ground probe should be part of the list.
skip the hydrometer - go with a refractometer.
agree with bill on the lights - it's a fowlr- why get reef-capable lights?
i would love to go but if we were picking teams I'm sure i'd be last. The small scrawny guy never gets picked (just look at that video game geek on survivor).
oh and are they any former military folks? Years ago I went with my co-workers and i came to the realization that no matter how many...
should be fine. I've seen a foxface leap out of the tank though - so just be aware. They also have an interesting tendency to "fade" in color depending on the light...so don't be alarmed if it is not the bright yellow/black you see in that pic.
If there's any rivalry - it will be between the...
D'oh....i am not trying to start a DSB vs BB thread. Personally I think the subject line is overblown - but that's the article title.
“We’ve known for a while that having a lot of sediment in the water is bad for corals and can smother them."...The killer blow for a degraded coral reef is a...
when i lived in ny there was a grocery store upstate called Stew Leonards. They gave some kind of coupon or discount if people took pictures of their plastic bags when traveling on vacation!
Like clockwork every week they had a new pic of someone in some far off location with the bag displayed...
Only the certain species from the pacific. The ones in patriot's tank do not have any relationship. They hunt on their own.
In this video -the pistol attacked a cleaner shrimp:

I think the commentary is overdone - i'd just watch it on mute.
