Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Even if it's a whelk - it's not dangerous unless you decide to add clams in the tank.
Here's another great link from Melev comparing nassarius vs. whelks:
Whelk vs. Nassarius Snail
Couples things to watch for:
1) the items picked up may not be suitable to your tank because of the temperature differences. In essence, something in the bay endures random temp when comparing winter and summer. It may survive for a while in warmer waters - but you are in essence accelerating...
Nice.
You're better off going to an LFS nearby and trying aiptasia-X first. The roundtrip gas (not to mention tolls) makes the trip not cost effective. Unless you moved from central nj which is where I thought you were - you're in green brook right?
oh and TR - you have to be part of the club...

God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above;
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
I am thankful to...
In the context of this thread, I think advocating the purchase of a CBB for aiptasia control is not ideal. A CBB may indeed last a long time if properly taken care of, but I think the odds are against us.
I'm going off what Scott W. Michael wrote in an article for Aquarium Fish International...

I know we're here in NJ - but it would seem to me that if we are to be impactful as a group in this hobby, then we can at least educate others of the potential problems aquarists pose to the environment.

lol thanks - i went to lowes and the 1.25" PVC (per the thread) is actually a little bit limited in stock compared with 1.5" pvc. Alrighty - maybe I'll try a HD instead. thanks!
btw - I wish my tank will be that beautiful in a year. Looking great!
there was some thread or other talking about the fact that LR supplies out of the pacific were extremely limited. At least you were able to get some with some colors you liked (albeit not the shape).
It's insensitive and silly comments like these that get other reefers aggravated. He lost his BTA. ???
I would siphon out everything and anything you can get to as it will eventually decompose into additional nutrients that will impact your water chemistry...
Just heads up - be sure the butterfly is okay at the LFS - they tend to be fragile and poor shippers - the copperbands at least...and those are the type you'll need to get for aiptasia.
That stated - why not try Joes Juice? A butterfly may end up picking on your other corals too.
That is pretty strange!
Be careful if an animal that normally would run comes at you. Last thing you want is for your dog to get bite by an animal infected with rabies.
is it gurgling because the elbow is sucking in air on the top? Can you show a pic of the top of your overflow?
if so then lowering the durso so the elbow remains below the water surface should help.
if you calculate the fact that the end price was $232, plus $39 shipping - it becomes a not-so-good bargain at all since our Group buys for a brand new fixture with PA come with 15% off and free shipping...
I was asking the same thing of my AWI rodi. Mikenapoli was kind enough to post these links:

or something like this...
beautiful.
Hey - are you having Wil hold the fish for you or are you skipping the QT? Just be warned - no matter how good the LFS (and AqOB is great) - you run the risk of introducing something not-so-nice if you skip the QT.
Obviously it's not so bad for you since this is a FOWLR - but just...
