Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

Welcome Bill! I really liked my tbs stuff but there were some hitchers I wish didn't tag along... ::) but I won't take up space on this post with that stuff. Perhaps you'll start a tale of the tank thread! (hint) Oh and if I could just drop a plug here - definitely consider joining as a...

    Wireless printer recommendations

a buddy of mine did a blog review of this one...he and his wife liked it. This was last year mind you - so this model may no longer be around... product review: hp c7180 photosmart wireless printer so you have the wireless laptop, wireless networking, you even have the wireless mouse, but yet...

    29gallon newbie

nice! at this point - just watch your alk/calcium parameters...with those in control -you should see your coralline algae populate relatively quickly. Looks good!

    hair algae

I think that is a reasonable plan you have - it could be that something was disturbed in the sandbed to have caused a slow release of nutrients you didn't anticipate showing up.

    Project BioCube (Lots Of Pics)

NICE! Always great to have cool hitchers. Just be warned...I got three shrooms from a fellow reefer, oh I dunno - like a year or two ago...and now they are replicating like crazy. It's like the TRIBBLES.. I swear. ;D ;D

    LAGUNA FARMS FROZEN FOOD

hey brmw! thanks for the post and insight. Would you mind not typing in "ALL CAPS"? it's hard to read...sorry - i already wear coke-thick eye glasses and if they get worse my wife will force me off this computer! ;D

    hair algae

This seems counter...intuitive to me...the macro should theoretically uptake the nutrients before hair algae were to grow. Maybe I am wrong...(which is common). What kind of flow do you have in the 20 long? Also how often are you feeding and are you using a skimmer? frequency of water changes...

    another phosban reactor question

You could pick up like a small bucket from a dollar store/hardware store - or even a bucket made for kids at the beach - and just put the reactor in there - it doesn't *have* to hang off the sump - it's just more convenient that way... i agree with mike tho about keeping it outside the sump.

LOL - great thread and posts....keep them coming! hard to tell what that snail is -but most folks get collonista snails as a hitcher.

i am going to go on the hunch (regarding your astreas) that they died of starvation...at least judging by when you introduced them on 12/12/07...the tank was pretty bare and likely too early to intro the crew. oh well...how about an updated pic...it's like 2 months anniversary now. ;D

NOAA Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Protections for Threatened Elkhorn Corals

Not sure how we can best help, but I plan on emailing the person in charge below to voice my support...I figure the more of us that do - perhaps the more likely the proposed protections will pass? oh - he was out of the shell but alive? That sounds like a case of the hermit outgrowing his shell - not having a new one to move into and dying. Most hermits that lack a suitable shell to grow into will try to kill a snail (hopefully bigger) to get the home...but it sounds like your hermit was...

    Is it PEST ?

If I were to guess - you have very very slow flow in that section of the tank? Do you have powerheads pushing water in that section of the tank? There are sponges - "pineapple" sponges - sorry i don't have the scientific name handy...they usually show up the sump of big tanks...if it is those...

    Calcium in pre-mixed water

I'm not sure on the mag - but to me grabbing a test kit to measure mag on a 12 gallon nano - I feel like you could probably get away with not doing it (ducks head)... :P Seriously-you didn't talk about your ALK reading and I think that would be the first test I'd check. Read this article here...

Green! Super green! Biodiesel hits Lincroft, NJ

I thought Dr. Emmett Brown in 1985 invented it....I think instead of a bus he put one in a DeLorean... although I think that required some plutonium too. ;)

    29gallon newbie

Yep- if you are dosing anything-be sure to have a good kit to measure it. Personally I don't think mag needs to be dosed for a 29 gallon as I would hope your water changes are frequent enough to replenish trace minerals like that. I am a wee bit concerned about the second snail death and the...
