Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Is there an echo in here?
Same question, different post, same answer!
Ryan, the above response from Brian is the best and safest way to plug up the holes. You could try a piece of glass that is held and sealed with silicone (reef safe silicone), but I’d feel more comfortable...
My guess is a small volume of alk??? Water on its own has no buffering capability and therefore the pH will be dictated by whatever buffers you add. I would think a few drops of alk (or a pinch of baking soda), would do it.
Anyone else catch the fact that these things came up from 33,000 feet. That’s 1000 times the pressure at sea level. Again, one thousand times! I say that at depth, these guys are no bigger than a grain of sand. When they are quickly brought to the surface, the change in pressure makes them...
I would first check to see that the glass was not tempered….easy to do using THIS simple test.
I used a pair of polarized sunglasses and a netbook computer.
Once you verify non-tempered glass, drill away.
As far as the old holes, leave the bulkheads there and put in plugs….either threaded...
Should be able to buy it at your local drug store. However, since Uncle Sammy started regulating it a couple years ago, you can only find it in small little bottles. If you can't find it locally, you can find it on amazon.com. It's like French perfume.....little bottle, a lot of bucks.
One minor little correction....with AC (alternating current) it doesn't matter which one goes in the tank and which one goes to ground.....red / black....black / red....it doesn't matter.
Joe, one of these is sufficient for a 40B. As far as look, they come in various combinations of white and blue LEDS, going from ca 10K to 15K to 20K. It all depends on the look/growth you want. I don't have the "Chinese" fixtures, but if you're in the area, you're welcome to check out what...
Stuck Cucumber
Hadn’t seen my cucumber in a week or so, and just figured it was motoring around the caves and back area of the tank. I’m cleaning my glass, and come over to the side of my tank, were my frag rack is stuck to the side of the tank. In the rack is my cucumber, and looked like it...
I have a 12 inch compound mitre saw with stand. Sorry, I will not lend it out. However, if you bring over your wood with your dimensions, I’ll cut it up for you.
No….nope…..not a glasses issue. It’s just me….not a big reader. The nice guy I am , I’ve re-written your piece in condensed form for those of us suffering from this debilitating reading thing.
Join Nikki and I for the February 25 NJRC meeting in Point Pleasant where we’ll have deli...
Hey guys, all this mumbo jumbo sort of scares me in considering a controllable Apollo. Now I know both of you are using a Reef Angel Controller. So the question I have is if I were to use, say an Apex Jr., would I have to go through all this nonsense…..Or would it be just a plug and play kind...
It’s not so much the temperature that dictates tanks mates. Since seahorses are docile eaters, I don’t know if you’d want to put anything other than the horses (or related species) in with these guys.
George, my head hurts from reading all that mumbo-jumbo. I’m glad I got the Apollos-for-dummies (aka, non-dimmable). My instructions are simple….plug it in; push the ON button; push the OFF button; done! That’s about all I can handle.
Good luck with getting yours all straightened out.
I would think you would want to (have to) offset the overflow anyway. Doesn’t the tank have a brace right in the middle? If so, you would have to offset the overflow.
Bottom line, I don’t think it really matters which option you go with. We are not talking highly engineered water flow...
