    T-5 six bulb configuration

I will only use ATI bulbs….I think they’re a very good bulb and hold up to my IceCap ballasts overdriving the bulbs. I also run six bulbs…3 Aquablue Specials and 3 Blue Plus. I like the look and the growth I get from this combo.

Salifert VS Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro Test Kit

The oh-so-slight difference is well within the error of the test method. This is good stuff to know. Thanks for doing the comparison.

    Stand for 300 gallon tank

In regard to the floor support, talk to Sunny (Monroereef). He recently put a big tank up against a supporting wall with lam-beams running perpendicular to the supporting wall. He still installed an additional supporting wall in the basement to support the front side of the tank. A...

Broken back and dying of boredom

Well Tony, I’m glad you finally found out about your back. But I’m still scratching my head on something else you said. You stated: I’m not sure the testing you had done verifies that you are not crazy. I think we need further testing! Seriously, feel better and get well soon.

    Stand for 300 gallon tank

I think I said that..."with a center brace (not shown in the picture)"

    Stand for 300 gallon tank

If you do the Reef Central design and use 2 x 6 top pieces (red and yellow boards) with a center brace (not shown in the picture), that should be more than enough to easily hold a 300 gallon tank. I would also put in a couple more cross braces (blue boards) in the top frame.

    Is this a good deal?

I know this was posted three weeks ago, but for bulkheads, gaskets ALWAYS go on the flange side. It also doesn't matter which way they are installed, as far as them holding a good water-tight seal , but again, the gasket is always with the flange, not on the nut side. The "plumber's grease" I...

    BRS Group Buys

BRS Group Buy policy has always been the "perferred" pricing on all merchandise. So you are correct in that regard. Once you have preferred pricing, the only advantage of running a group buy is if you have it all shipped to one location....you save on shipping....or for those who don't have...

    Leveling / Slight Wobble

You effectively have a single 1 ¼ inch drain with a bunch of fittings that add additional frictional lost…..you are nowhere close to the flow you need. You might want to see THIS. I would suggest two individual 1 ½ drain lines which should be able to handle ca 1500 gph…..otherwise, maybe...

    Best Aquariums You've been too

I think a good number of the aquariums can be “great” because of what they have to offer. I look for the good in everyone I’ve been to. Hawk mentioned Seattle. I was just there this summer, and the better part of the aquarium is from local aquatic life. They do have one “room” set up with...

    Leveling / Slight Wobble

I am not familiar with this stand, but if it is made with some type of sheet material….plywood or MDO or something similar…then the shimming has to be every couple inches. You can’t just shim the corners or one or two spots. As an example, if one corner has to be raised. Then you have to...

cleaning rock / killing algea ...what to do

I wouldn’t use vinegar, unless it was for a very short period of time…..a dip. Vinegar will dissolve this stuff that we call rock, because it really is just a bunch of calcium deposits. The other option, if the wife isn’t home, and you can vent the odor from your house, is to put it in the...

    Ecotech Radion tripping GFCI?

If you have another GFCI in your house, plug the light in there and see if it trips that GFCI. Sometimes the GFCI’s are themselves faulty. If the other GFCI also trips, then you’ve got a short/ground fault/overload problem with that fixture. Send it back!

    Veterans Day

I almost think rank disappears once you retire. My Dad reached the high rank of Private, First Class. A couple of years ago he went to play a round of golf over at Fort Bragg. Well you would have thought he was a General. It was "Yes Sir," this and "Yes Sir," that from everyone he met at...
