    Looking for ideas

I agree with the check valves. As far as blacking out the right side, I’ve use that poster board (sign board) that looks like corrugated cardboard, but it is made of a plastic material. I’ve spray painted it black and currently use it as a backdrop for a 40 gallon freshwater tank. You can’t tell...

    tempered glass bottom and overflows

Nano, the overflow kit comes with the drill bit to drill the hole. All you need is a drill. Watch one of their videos and you'll see how easy it is. Go slow with no pressure. That's all you need to know...Oh, and as you know, don't try it on tempered glass. If you are close by, I'll come and...

    tempered glass bottom and overflows

OK, here’s my sales pitch again. www.glass-holes.com I think this is the greatest overflow on the market. Small, quiet and a great company to deal with, to boot. Check out our build here where we drilled ½ inch glass (ca. 12 mm), with two holes (about halfway down the page)...

    Cleaner magnets

Slap on one of RichT’s Reef Gadgets on your Magfloat, and there is nothing better. I believe you can now purchase Reef Gadgets at some local LFS…don’t quote me, but I think AO and TB Aquatics now carry this cleaning wonders. FYI, I use Magfloats on my tanks.

Wife and I started a business

I dabbled in soaps for a major corporation a number of years ago. What we discovered was a market for high-end specialty soaps. If you sell regular old hand soap, you will not be able to compete against the giants. So make sure you use the buzz words to sell your stuff…handcrafted; all natural...

Does anyone have a spare QT tank?!

The other option is to find a fellow friend reefer close by who could hold them until your tank has finished cycling.

From Fish Only Tank to Reef

Copper is a poison to algae, bacteria and inverts. Once the fish have finished their treatment, I’d move them to the 46. Then I’d knock down the 90 and toss anything that was in there….sand and rock. Clean the tank and all components (heater, pumps, etc), with vinegar and rinse well. Refill the...

how many watts for growing cheato in fuge?

What bulb are you using in your clip-on. Have the full spectrum compact flourescent bulb in a HD clip-on and the cheato grows just fine. If I remember correctly, it is 100 or 125 watt equivalent.

    Onyx Nassarius Snails

Te salut, Codfather. I guess I’ll have to go do some local collection for snails. Thanks for the info.

    Onyx Nassarius Snails

I could be totally wrong because I don’t know much, but I also thought that Nassarius were warm water snails. I’m assuming your catch was local...NJ waters. I never knew we had Nassarius here. Are you sure they are not Whelks. The difference is that the Nassarius will bury itself in the sand...

    40 Breeder Reef Plan

Anthony, I’m willing to bet the “slugs” you found in your tank were actually Stomatella snails. They have a slug-like appearance, only having a partial shell on their backs. Google Stomatella to look at pictures to see if that is what you have. FYI, they are good.

    mtc skimmers

Three baffles should eliminate bubbles. I’m not sure of the model number of the MTC, but it’s about half submerged in the sump. Here’s a picture that will show how deep it’s in.

    Huge skimmer pump needed

I apologize in advance for the questions, but just trying to eliminate possible causes. Is the beckett right side up? Did you include the flow diverter inside the beckett? How are you controlling the air being drawn into the beckett? Does that have a valve on it? A 12K gph would still drawn in...

    Huge skimmer pump needed

Lord, I am also confused by the eight inch outlet. The beckett type skimmer that I am familiar with is the MRC. For this skimmer to function properly, it has a gate valve on the outlet side. You control the function of the skimmer by micro turns of this gate valve. If the outlet is wide open...

    any martial arts people here?

James, don’t mean to highjack…by the way, I’m into the marital arts…much more difficult and painful than martial arts…you still get belts, but they usually turn black and blue. ;D Anyway, I tore my meniscus about two years ago on the soccer field. The surgeon was able to get away with just...

45 gallon tall - help and guidance needed

You will be happy with the glass-holes overflow. We put the 1500 gph in a 90 gallon tank. Here’s the Tale-of-the-Tank thread: http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=15806.0 I’m not sure what you are questioning, but you only need one kit and I would suggest...
