Purple whip are photosynthetic. These are pretty easy corals. They do benefit from feeding though.

The idea is that the center of the tank will be full of needle java fern. Without CO2 it will be difficult to keep the sand clean and java fern growing fast. Will try Excel first.

Mine just setup. Still need a few more plants. Not doing co2 now but I might later.

I had a situation like these before with a new tank setup. I used Vibrant it took care of the problem in 2 weeks. So that's what I would do, as a one off fix. Once you have detectable phosphate and nitrate you can bring BP back online slowly.
