Precipitation. Do I win a prize for getting the answer?
Actually I agree with Edwin (which must mean I agree with myself)…what’s important is to not subject your tank to big swings. Even if your numbers are crap, keep them at “crap” while you slowly bring them in line. Don’t just shut...
John, first thought...alk, calc and mag numbers. And are you dosing?
Second thought....your kid wouldn't have put "something" into the tank?
Third.....temperature....has the tank seen temperature swings?
Edwin, sounds good….that changes the total price for this Wet Frame from $18 to $14 each…..sounds a little better for this 50-cent piece of plastic..
Before I order, does anyone else need any Ecotech parts? We’ll split the shipping based on percentage of $$ ordered. Let me know ASAP.
Surprisingly the epoxy didn’t hold. Maybe because it was just too small a piece. I’ve now applied a slug of super glue (cyanoacrylate), but I’m not overly optimistic. David, thanks for the info about parts….I had already looked it up…$10 for the Wet Frame plus $7.95 shipping.
Pete, you know your chemistry. Yes, there is a reaction of the vinegar (acetic acid) with the calcium carbonate, which "consumes" the acid. This is the reason why you need to continually wet the towel (along with evaporation). The reaction of vinegar with calcium carbonate produces a...
You actually need to re-wet the towel with vinegar ever hour or so. The towel must remain wet with vinegar. It does work....I've recently done it with two Brute trash cans used for mixing salt.
If you still have the O-Ring and it's in one piece, put a little plumber's grease on it. I actually use Leslie's Pool Lube...it's the same stuff at a fraction of the cost. You need to buy that in a Leslie's Pool Store. In your area, there is one in Hamilton (950 Highway 33, Hamilton, NJ)...
News Flash!
Four men fell through a dilapidated front porch while delivering a new 135 gallon fish tank. No serious injuries, but the tank was a total loss. :o
Congratulations Matt. Will be following along with this tale.
Wow, Earl! You get eight website icons on your Chrome page. I guess size does matter….I only have a netbook, so I only get six.
But that’s the page I’m talking about.
Epoxied in the broken piece. When the epoxy cures, I’ll sand off that excess you see to make it nice and smooth. This might work! Love that JB-Weld Epoxy. With a little extra left over, I fragged the Bird’s Nest…..And my wife says I get nothing done during the day! Now where are the...
George, let me see if I can explain. When I open Chrome I have a page that shows six websites…and again, I assumed these were in order of “most visited.”….it certainly seemed that way. About a month ago I noticed Yahoo was first on this page, and NJRC got pushed to the right. Now Mapquest...
What’s going on with Google Chrome and the order of websites. NJRC and R2R were always number 1 and 2 when I opened Chrome. I was under the impression it was because they were the two sites I visited the most. Over the past month Yahoo is now number 1 and Mapquest is number 2. I go to...
Anyone else see this problem with their Ecotech MP40’s? I am doing my quarterly cleaning of the MP40’s, and when I take one apart I find a small sliver of plastic broken off the Wet Frame. This is the second time I’ve had this issue. You can see the finger-nail shaped piece of plastic to...
THIS one might be a little better in understanding the relationship….and it has pictures!
And HERE’S another good read…..suck down a box of Ex-Lax and get back into the bathroom to read this one.
Following along with this build…..nice documentation. I like that spray bar at the bottom of the tank. Once you get this going, update to comment if that works. I have a barebottom JBJ28 and you wouldn’t believe the stuff that accumulates on the bottom.
Sagging Floor Saga
So here’s the latest thought process on the sagging floor due to the fish tank. But first I want to reflect on the advice given to me when this tank was first installed. I questioned the weight, and was vehemently told that there was no need to sister the joists…that a 90...
Jeff, thanks for the comments. Here is my thought process right now….and it’s been changing faster than the weather: That room in the basement still has open studded walls (or still waiting for studs)…and it’s a little over 8 feet wide. I’m thinking two small steel I-beams perpendicular to...
