    Which Reactors to Run

Jon Warner (of Warner Marine and maker of EcoBak biopellets) gave an interesting and concise talk at this year’s swap. He said that the bacteria consume equal portions of nitrate, phosphate and carbon……a one for one for one. If one of the components isn’t there, it doesn’t work. That...

You guys are too kind. Although I’m degreed in Chemistry and Biology, I haven’t touched test-tubes in maybe 25 years.

Matt, thanks for the heads up on your trash bin idea for blocking the light. I’ve got to kick around some ideas on how to block mine. I’m thinking more of a sleeve….but what material can take the saltwater?

Gee wiz, I sure hope it doesn’t overflow! I get this all the time! If you set up siphon breaks, sump flow-back is easily calculated. The sump was built to handle the back-flow: Pumps On…note pink arrow (it might be purple…I’m color blind), marks water level in return...

Now how do I do that? maybe make a sleeve that fits over the reactor. But then I won't be able to see the beads swirling round and round.

So here’s my latest lame-brained idea…..get rid of my refugium! I’ve recently started biopellets which will now handle all my nitrates and phosphates….some say too well. So with nitrates and phosphates taken care of, why do I need a refugium filled with chaetomorpha. Actually my chaeto...

FREE - PULSING XENIA - Sayreville

The more you take, the freer it gets. I really need to get rid of a bunch of this, so come and get it. It will be fresh plucked.....no mounting.

    $5 Corals

All the following are fresh cut/plucked….nothing mounted. You’ll leave with a generous piece. Pictures are of mother colonies. All are $5/each. LARGE HAIRY MUSHROOM I have maybe four or five of these. Whatever one we can get off the rocks. Here’s the Momma, about 6-7 inches...

Yep! Just make sure you add Alk to Alk and Calc to Calc......I've made that mistake once! Both components are rock solid stable.....calcium chloride (the calc part) and sodium carbonate (the alk part).

So Matt, you’ve been going for about a month with this biopellet reactor. Have you noticed an increase in skimmer output? Or any other changes I need to watch for?

first post here...looking for some true reefing friends and some help

Wow……WOW! I agree with Mike and I’d also have a serous talk with you dad and let him know what’s going on. There is obviously some serious family issues going on that need to be addressed before setting up another tank. And welcome to the club!

    New 75 gallon tank build

Fresh cut glass has very sharp edges. Glass shops will flame polish these edges to smooth them out so they are not sharp. They quickly run a flame over the edge to slightly round out the edges.

dnov99's 260 Gal eye candy thread...

NOW HOLD ON ONE MINUTE! Don’t be to quick to comment on how drop-dead beautiful these corals are. Darren could be photo-shopping some ugly brown stuff to make it look pretty. I think it only fair that Darren host another meeting so that we could verify the true colors of these corals...

    Chiller 1/20 HP - Sayreville

Phil, it didn’t hit me until you responded, but I would think a chiller is a required piece of equipment for you horse owners. They like their water cool!

    Shopping for a new skimmer

YES. The Atman 2500 was on the SWC 160 and NAC7. A smaller Atman (I think 1100) was on the SWC 120. Not sure what was on the NAC3 or NAC9

    Shopping for a new skimmer

That's interesting. I'd give them a call and specifically tell them that you have a NAC7 with an Atman and would the new SP2000 pump fit. So they came out with an upgrade kit for the NAC6 and NAC9, but potentially the NAC7 is a direct fix. Please keep up informed. I now have three...
