Mine occasionally disappear into their mat for 2 or 3 days, but I've had great luck. I think my 'grass' is 2x the size it was when I got it a few months back: As far as my conditions, I don't really skim or dose, and I change 1/6 of the water every week.

I've heard some of these lil stars have a taste for zoos. Mine don't seem to bother them, but I know some people grab them off the glass and flush them on site due to their occasional eating habits.

Some people have all the luck. I threw a baby thompsoni tang in with a coral beauty one time and every fish in my tank ended up dying. Ha. A school of yellows would sure be purdy!

Re: MJ1200 heat When I mix water in my garage (55-60 degrees ambient temp) I use a MJ1200 in a 5g bucket with no heater. After 2 days the water is 78 degrees. Just FYI....

Loctite sure is expensive when compared with coralafix or the like, though. Those little bottles don't last very long.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I'd HIGHLY recommend automating your lighting process. timers are about $7 at the home depot or lowes and do a great job of not only keeping things consistent, but also avoiding these types of issues. Sorry to hear of your losses. At least the fish made it, though!

I believe you want the hole submersed until your water turns off, and then it breaks the siphon when the water level gets down just a bit. I could be wrong, though...I don't use a hole like that...

It seems to me that any drastic change in this hobby just takes time to work itself out. You went from basically a dark tank to a brightly lit tank. It's going to take a little while for your tank to work itself out. Basically, trying to keep the nutrient intake down will help, as will...

I would say probably not. Or at least, it's probably not a good idea to get a sand burrowing animal and have no sand for it.

I don't think you need a DSB, exactly. They do burrow into the sand and hide there with their little...tentacle...nose-like thing sticking out. But a few inches of sand should suffice.

I think there are a lot of variables to take into account when talking about flow. Tank dimensions, flow direction and especially rock formations that may block/alter the flow. I have a 29g with a MJ1200 (295GPH) on my fuge and a closed loop system with an 800 GPH pump on it, and I wish I had...

I think it's time to add some coral to that tank. It looks so empty. ;)

Hey Mynd, You know there's a good chance you already have some and you just haven't seen them yet. It took about 7 months for me to start seeing them...now I've noticed 5 or 6 already.
